Subject: BS: Pardon of Innocence Wilmington 10 From: Janie Date: 31 Dec 12 - 05:36 PM Outgoing NC Governor Bev Perdue issued "pardons of innocence" to the the Wilmington 10 today. "These convictions were tainted by naked racism and represent an ugly stain on North Carolina's criminal justice system that cannot be allowed to stand any longer," said Gov. Beverly Purdue. "Justice demands that this stain finally be removed." Wilmington 10 receive pardon of innocence - at last. |

Subject: RE: BS: Pardon of Innocence Wilmington 10 From: GUEST Date: 31 Dec 12 - 05:55 PM In my world, which I feel is much unlike yours Janie, I would find the surviving people responsible for that miscarriage of justice and visit upon them what they deserve. However, maybe it's not good to say that on a public site. |

Subject: RE: BS: Pardon of Innocence Wilmington 10 From: Greg F. Date: 31 Dec 12 - 06:39 PM Good Ol' race-baiting sumbitch Jesse Helms - the pride of North Carolina - must be turning in his grave. Maybe we can get her to look into the November 10, 1898 Alfred Waddell -led riot and pogrom against Blacks in Wilmington. |

Subject: RE: BS: Pardon of Innocence Wilmington 10 From: Janie Date: 31 Dec 12 - 06:49 PM It took a good bit of political courage, even for an outgoing governor, to issue that proclamation of innocence. It was too long coming, but better now than later, or even, never. I don't know how different our worlds are, Bruce, internally or externally. Notions re: revenge or justice that derives from the "eye for an eye" school just don't seem useful to me. The energy of anger can be put to powerful good use, or used destructively. I am slightly acquainted with Ben Chavis. He put his anger to good use. |

Subject: RE: BS: Pardon of Innocence Wilmington 10 From: catspaw49 Date: 01 Jan 13 - 09:36 AM This was such a good thing to do and it DID take some courage to do it which only reminds me that racism is still an issue only slightly hidden by the thinnest of shrouds. When people feel good about questioning an elected President's birth and boldly question his religion, education, and loyalty, how can it get any thinner? Don't you ever wish that just one of those friggin' assholes would just say it? "I don't want no gawddamn nigger in the White House!" Thank you Bev Perdue for a bit of light in the forest. Spaw |
