Subject: BS: Question: Sending Email List? From: Ebbie Date: 22 Dec 12 - 12:51 PM I am back, hat in hand, with another plea for assistance. I need to send an email list I have to another person and I don't know how. Rather than re-inventing the wheel I have come to the most knowledgeable people I know. I have tried retrieving them and pasting them into the body of an email individually- but not only is it slow and time-consuming, I keep losing the 'document'. Is there a way to copy the entire list, pasting them into the body of an email and then deleting all those I don't wish to send? Thanking you in advance, I remain your faithful servant, etc. Eb |

Subject: RE: BS: Question: Sending Email List? From: Bill D Date: 22 Dec 12 - 01:05 PM Ebbie, this is Rita. What does the list look like now? Is it separate addresses in your e-mail address book? I have to do this for two events I organize. Here's what I do. In my address book I set up a new e-mail address, e.g. "Craft Vendors List." Then -- it's slow, yes -- I copy each person's e-mail to this list, one per line followed by a carriage return. You don't need commas or anything. I include each person's name, eg Rita Ferrara The two advantages are: You can't lose it, it's in your e-mail; and everything is accessible and in one place, you can keep track of where you are. And I save the address book after every 5 or 10 copies! Once you have your list you can cut and paste to WORD or whatever. This isn't slick but it's fairly easy. - Rita |

Subject: RE: BS: Question: Sending Email List? From: Newport Boy Date: 22 Dec 12 - 02:36 PM Probably the easiest way is to export the list in .LDIF or .CSV format and send that as an attachment. Most email clients will export and import both. I generally use .CSV because it's easy to open it in a spreadsheet for editing before importing. Phil |

Subject: RE: BS: Question: Sending Email List? From: Ebbie Date: 22 Dec 12 - 06:31 PM Well, I did another cop out- which is why I so often don't learn new things - I ended up setting a Word document alongside and typing in the addresses. I then sent it to me in order to see if I made any errors and then finished up with sending it to the person who needs it. I made so many false starts that it was much faster to do it my way, even though there were 58 of them. But I do thank you, Rita and NBoy- your instructions were clear but I struggled anyway. |

Subject: RE: BS: Question: Sending Email List? From: JohnInKansas Date: 23 Dec 12 - 01:34 AM In my Win7 Mail program, I can just click on "Contacts" on the menu (way down at the bottom) and then click "export," choose CSV format, give the file a name and hit go. The .csv file can be opened in Word, and Edit|Replace "," with ^t (the code for a tab) gets a complete list of all the contacts (I only have a few more than 200) in my contacts folder, with a tab between name and email addy. (When you pick the "export" function, you can choose what info to include, and I cut it back to name and email.) Deleting the ones you don't want may be easier than copying them one at a time, or what you did may be simpler. If you have a subgroup of mailing addresses for a mailing list, it should show as a separate list or as a subfolder and you might be able to export the subfolder separately. Prior versions of MickySquish Mail programs, including Outlook, all included this ability, and some kinds of html email do but some either don't or make it hard to find. The Contacts should be (in Windows) at C:\Users\username\Contacts, but the files there can't be opened directly by common programs. John |

Subject: RE: BS: Question: Sending Email List? From: Ebbie Date: 23 Dec 12 - 02:20 AM I had that particular group email list in a separate BCC format and I didn't know how to retrieve them. I also had the same names in my regular address book- and that is what I eventually pasted into a separate list. At that point I couldn't figure out how to transfer them into the body of an outgoing email so I typed them up and attached them to an email I sent myself. When they came through fine, I then sent them on to the friend who needed them. If I had done that from the beginning I could have had it done in 30 minutes. :) |
