Danny Boyle has refused a knighthood because he claims the Olympic Event stood for egalitarianism and honours are contrary to this. Quite right and thank you Mr Boyle for refusing to take part in this knighthood, peerage, gong nonsense. Things will never inprove until we reject these symbols of class distinction. Many honours are given to those who just do a job: top civil servants, chief constables, captains of industry; to people who ride bikes, row...what absolute nonsense! Aren't they paid enough as it is. Danny Boyle joins an elite crew: Henry Moore, Michael Faraday, L S Lowry, John Cleese, Albert Finney, Paul Dirac, Francis Crick, Alan Bennet, Charles Babbage, Dave Bowie, Alistair Simm, Graham Greene, Stephen Hawkins, David Hockney, Humphrey Littleton and many others. Thank goodness there are some men and women of honour; true 'knights' perhaps. And what a fine collection of knights and peers we have: jailbirds, paedophiles, tax dodgers, incompetant bankers among them.
