Subject: RE: BS: cartoon the wizard of ID anyone remember From: GUEST,999 Date: 06 Dec 12 - 05:43 PM Dan, indeed I do. Here was a strip that has stayed in my memory. Rodney was on the castle wall being the guard. He heard a noise and queried, "Who goes there?" A reply came back: "William the Conqueror!" Rodney then said, "State your business." From the darkness came the answer, "I just did." |

Subject: RE: BS: cartoon the wizard of ID anyone remember From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 07 Dec 12 - 11:57 AM Hi, old dude. I know what you meant in the first post when you wrote about the insults. One day I figured out that it helps to know what time it was when the Insulter was posting. For mudcat regulars, I try to figure out where they live. UK? Australia? North America? Then if a guy in the UK posts something vitriolic and I figure out it's midnight where he is, I figure he's either been drinking or doing some kind of dope. He's coming off the high, and now he's in bad mood and wants to hurt somebody. Understanding that keeps me from taking it personally. Some insulters just want somebody to talk to, but they don't know how to get started. When they are new, I try to give them a chance. Sexism plays a role too. For example, I started a thread called 'If you love birds,' about the Cornell Ornithology Lab. The next six posts were insulting and all came from men. Most, if not all, were not Americans and would not be expected to give to Cornell anyway. Yet they had to butt in. Some men seem to think that females really shouldn't be contributing and that the rules of polite society don't really apply to females. Esp. when the insulter can be anonymous. Fortunately, the bad six were followed by three nice male posters. Finally, we get a lot of attackers because we are "a worthy foe." Mudcatters are generally intelligent and coherent(sp). Attacking catters is a lot more gratifying than attacking some naive teenager who writes something like "I C U R going to SkUL." |

Subject: RE: BS: cartoon the wizard of ID anyone remember From: olddude Date: 07 Dec 12 - 12:26 PM Naw Leeneia I still think its the little guy that lives in the log out in the woods with the eyes ... he needed a place to live ...so he came to mudcat. Besides since the king is displeased with us, we have to suffer the ultimate punishment ... sit on the log tee hee :-) |

Subject: RE: BS: cartoon the wizard of ID anyone remember From: Little Hawk Date: 07 Dec 12 - 07:07 PM Cheech Wizard died loooong ago, Henry, along with his tasteless creator, Vaughn Bode. I have to admit the man was a very good artist...and he did have a knack for a certain form of ribald humour...but his general instincts were of the very lowest! To put it politely, he sucked dead rats. That's why Spaw liked that strip so much... ;-) Yo, asswipe! Spaw! Yeah, you heard me right. The Cheech is dead. May he rot in obscurity. I met his lizard assistant last year at a convention in Toronto. He's doing fine now. He told me he goes once a year to California for just one purpose: to piss on the Cheech Wizard's grave. |

Subject: RE: BS: cartoon the wizard of ID anyone remember From: Little Hawk Date: 08 Dec 12 - 04:21 PM You have to read quite a few consecutive episodes of Cheech Wizard in order to get what it's really about, Henry. This is what it's really about: 1. arrogance - Cheech is as arrogant as the day is long 2. lust - always a major element in Cheech's life 3. a big ego - None bigger than that of Cheech! 4. kicking people in the balls - a favorite activity of Cheech Wizard. 5. taking advantage of "dumb broads" - I think that's how Cheech would put it. 6. boasting - None better at this than Cheech. 7. humiliating the help - Cheech loved doing this. 7. being a major @$$hole - Cheech is a master at this. Now, I suspect that all of the above are either what Vaughn Bode was like himself....or what he just wished he was like! ;-D Not sure though...cos I never met him. Cheech Wizard was a bit like Garfield would be if he was put in a human skin, only with a gigantic infusion of sex drive added to the already ugly picture. Individuals like this are more than a mere burden to society...they are a virulent disease! They need to be stamped out. The asian karate lizard that Cheech shot with the shotgun knew that all too well, which is why he should have come armed with a damned Kalashnikov instead of just some fancy karate moves. Too bad! Cheech might have died that day if not for that lizard's lapse in judgement. The thing about jerks like Cheech is, you take absolutely no chances when you set out to destroy them. Blast 'em while they're not looking. Send them a bomb in the mail. Put poison in their beer. Lure them to their doom with an exploding 1 kiloton atomic love doll that goes off when penetrated. Anything that gets the job done, I say. |

Subject: RE: BS: cartoon the wizard of ID anyone remember From: Mysha Date: 09 Dec 12 - 07:25 AM Hi, Yes, I remember that cartoon. It was published in a newspaper I didn't normally see, so I only saw the occasional strip. I haven't seen it around here any more for some time, but I don't know whether it stopped. Last thing I know is that a son became involved, so it may be continuing still in the second generation. No, I don't recall an insulting log. I expect I would not have thought that funny. It's indeed little different from the not funny behaviour here on Mudcat when a poster thinks it's a laugh to inflict an insulting post on all the readers of a thread. You've not experienced the full potential of that comic, though, if you haven't read it in Dutch: Everybody knows how delaying the punch line in jokes works, I expect. Well, the translator of the comic in Dutch tended to be unable to translate the real punch line, and would replace it with a somewhat funny approximation. Now, you'd be reading the comic and would find it more or less clue-less. And you'd go: "Hm, not really funny." "What would this have been in English." You'd translate back, which would get you the Dutch joke in English. From there, you would them have to make that same kind of unexpected association that makes a joke funny. Then, suddenly, the full delayed blast would hit you. (-: Funny is just past the new. Mysha |
