Subject: BS: Prez. Election 2016??? Count me in...
From: Bobert
Date: 27 Nov 12 - 06:29 PM

Yeah, okay... I know... I did quit this year but that was because my people told me that Obama was gonna win no matter but...

...2016 is W-I-D-E open and so...

...count me in...

My "Ten Point" platform has now wrinkles as well as some older ones...

1. As per usual, all victim-less crimes will be wiped from the books and those that generate money will be taxed... The tax ob hemp products alone will be tens of billions a year...

2. I will push for a Constitutional amendment that abolishes the election of House of Representatives in favor of a a House made up of people selected randomly for 4 year terms with 1 year of orientation prior to serving...

3. On taxes, I will propose a hybrid system of "value added" for some products that are nor necessities and a more progressive income tax without any deductions but higher exemptions...

4. I will propose that 2% of the federal budget will be spent on the arts through grants to individuals and communities...

5. Automobile driving will be restricted over a number of years as people settle into a "work, live, play" culture where commuting 20 miles a day is no longer the model... Additionally, more money will go into mass transit and high speed rail...

6. A single-payer health care system will replace the Affordable Care Act with premiums based on behavioral risks such as smoking, not exercising, poor diets, etc....

7. A goal of cutting carbon output by 50% over 8 years and coal fired plants will be shut down in favor of wind, solar, hemp, ocean currents, hydroelectric...

8. A system of flood relief canals will be built along major rivers that move water into massive reservoirs that can be tapped to irrigate farms during droughts...

9. We will bring our nuclear arsenal to a level that is sane (less than 100) that will act as a deterrent... My foreign policy will be an open one and I will meet with any leader who has a beef with the USA...

10. Lastly, I will require anything that is put out in the media to be subject to "fact checking" and those who are frequent offenders will first be warned and if they want to continue peddling mythology and flat-earth ideas and science they will be put out of business...

There, folks... That's a start...

Who wants to be my VP???

The Krinkx and Chongz need no apply...

B~

Might of fact, I been growing organically since the 60s so we could have some great conversations about the way we feed out nation...

Oh yeah... Farm subsidies for millionaires is stupid... Hey, if they want to pay into an insurance group to protect them from loss of their crops, fine... Let 'um do that... Meanwhile, community gardens in every city... Turn every empty lot into food...

You got some interestin' ideas there, Bobertz. I agree about the victimless crimes. They ain't crimes at all, so de-criminalize 'em. I also agree on the single payer health scheme. What we need is a setup similar to what they have in Canada or France. Also agree very much with yer nuclear weapons reduction scheme!

Regardin' the House...what ya really need to do is STOP all the damn gerrymanderin' of the votin' districts. How to stop it is a bit of a puzzlement. Maybe just get some neutral party (Some people from Denmark, maybe?) to go in in re-draw ALL the damn House and Senate votin' boundaries in every state in a simple geometrical grid fashion without panderin' to ANY special interests, and then keep 'em that way forever by law from that point on...

Anyways...what I'm thinkin' here is...ya got some great ideas, no doubt about that. But yer a little flakey, see? You keep havin' accidents with tractors and chainsaws and stuff like that, and it makes you a risky choice for the top spot. Ya might end up accidentally killin' yerself halfway through yer term of office.

No...what you need is to be in the number 2 spot with a steady guidin' hand above you to put yer great ideas to work and make sure it all comes out okay.

In short, I am makin' YOU a generous offer here. Be my VP in 2016. You won't regret it. Together we will re-make America!

- Chongo

p.s. Don't be an idiot, Bobertz. Grab this once-in-a-lifetime chance while you can. I offered the same job to Sarah Palin, she turned it down, and look where she is now! See my point?

Subject: RE: BS: Prez. Election 2016??? Count me in...

Yeah, Chongz... The gerrymandering is why the House is so polarized... 90% of House districts are safe districts so folks don't feel they need to make an compromises...

But getting the House to approve an independent neutral party to draw fair districts would be impossible... There isn't enough shame in the world to accomplish that feat... So, just appoint a House from a cross section of Americans seems like an easier thing to do... If I run on that and am elected then I can use that as my mandate and shove it down their throats... That's the only way to get the House to act responsibly...

As for VP, Chongz... I'm the one with the certified birth certificate, not you... Plus, the country has gone way down but ain't ready to have a monkey for president... No offense... I mean, as far as monkeys go yer okay in my book... Just no presidential material...

Hmmm. Well, I think I'd be good at the job, but it's all a matter of opinion, right?

Yer idea for randomly selectin' people for the house and givin' 'em a preliminary year of trainin' on the job is not a bad one. I bet it would end up better than what we got now. Boy, it would sure get the rich folks mad, though, if ya brought in a system like that, cos they wouldn't be able to control the process no longer. I'm thinkin' yer life wouldn't be worth a plugged nickel if ya tried it.

Of course...that goes for me if I ever get elected too. Hmmm.

Well, gettin' back to yer platform, I would say spend 5% of the budget on the arts, not 2%. A country that gives more attention the the arts and less attention to conquerin' the world is a country on the right path, as far as I'm concerned, and it'd be a much happier place.

Right now, we put more money into war each year than all the other countries in the world put together. I don't recall anyone else who ever done that before except maybe the Roman Empire...and they didn't have nukes and stealth bombers and stuff like that. If they had, they probably would've ended up wipin' out the human race. We are livin' in VERY dangerous times, Bobertz, probably the most dangerous times in all history, and if we don't stop goin' down the path of seekin' military domination of the world, I think we are gonna pay a terrible price.

So yer idea of reducin' the stockpiles of nukes might be the most crucial and necessary of all yer ideas. The main powers that gotta take the lead on it are Russia and the USA, cos they are the ones with enough of the damn things to kill everyone on this planet. There should be direct talks with the Russians to get the ball rollin' on this.

Did you know that there was almost a nuclear war in 1983, at the height of Russian fears over Reagan's "evil empire" remarks, because a Russian satellite gave them a false report that some missiles had been launched in the western USA? (It was the sun gleamin' off very high clouds, and the Russian satellite misread it as the launch of several Minuteman missiles. The Russians had only minutes to decide whether or not to launch a counterstrike....and the decision came down to ONE Russian officer who was on duty. He was horrified. In the end, he made the decision to shut down the automatic systems that would have gone ahead and given the commands to launch a full strike of Russian missiles at the USA. If that ONE guy had not broken with procedure and taken personal initiative, we'd all have fried in 1983. That's how close we are to annihilation. It just takes one mistake by one person or one piece of automated equipment, and it's all over...for pretty much everybody.)

This has gotta be dealt with by the 2 nations who have the power to destroy this civilization, and ASAP.

- Chongo

Just so you know what I'm alludin' to about 1983, Bobertz, here is an excellent documentary about the war that very nearly happened:

1983: The Brink of Apocalypse

The Soviet elite saw an aggressor in the anti-communist American leader Ronald Regan. A series of incidents including the infamous Evil Empire speech lead to 1983 when the world came to the brink of World War III and the West didn't even know it.

It's in 8 sections, so it takes awhile to watch it. I think it's a full hour show. Aside from the fact that the female narrator keeps mispronouncin' "nuclear" as "noo-kyoo-lar", it is a very good documentary. It is a very strange feeling to think that I and everyone I know coulda been fried to a crisp...or coulda died slowly and miserably from burns and radiation and other aftereffects way back in the early 80's, and we never woulda known why it even happened...suddenly...out of a clear blue sky on an ordinary day.

We still live under that sword.

here's my radical idea about voting districts.... at least on the national election. house of representatives are supposed to represent the "people", not the registered voters, based on population.

so... use the census data to get a total of residents and then the total number per county or parrish. then portion the number of seats by county/parish based on population. you may need to combine adjoining counties to avoid the "typical American family with 2.3 children" situation... but it's far fairer that what we have now.

I too have been thinking along these lines, Bobert, although I have not thought it out as clearly as you; I like your thinkin'.

But I have been cogitatin' along the lines of what kinds of issues bring people together; my conclusion was that we need a new political party that recognizes this. Therefore:

The Common Bonds Party
We believe in America. Therefore we believe in:
* Serving the People
* Protecting our Environment
* Equitable Tax Laws
* Utilizing 'socialist' programs as needed and without fear
* Providing pre-paid single-payer health care
* Our nation's energy abundance
* Recognizing the limitless creativity, inventiveness and vitality of People

Anyone with me? Add your thoughts. Not with me? Explain your thinkin'.

Hey Bobert -- I'm an American, too, so I know how it works. And I also know this is all in fun. But as the saying goes, "politics is the art of the possible." And presidents -- even presidential candidates -- should try to advance achievable objectives, and some pragmatic way of getting from where we are now to where we ought to be. Remember, the guy who lost our most recent election (thank goodness) fell short of the mark largely because, while his objectives (strong economy, lower unemployment, etc.) were worthy goals, he refused to tell us with any specificity how he expected to get there, other than on the strength of his supposed business expertise. So it was really just a wish list, not a plan -- just like yours, I'm afraid.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled program of fun and frivolity. Thanks for letting me drop by. -- WS

I kinda look at it this way... Barry Goldwater had to lose in order for Ronald Reagan to win...

Hey, if I get out there and advance real "liberal" ideas, as opposed to the moderate ones that the right says are "liberal", then maybe the seed germinates... I mean, if I have to go down to open up a door for future liberals then so be it... It's kinda like a sacrifice fly ball...

I think you are doing the right thing in presenting these ideas, Bobert. People need to think outside just the usual conventional box of what is considered "do-able" or pragmatic right now and look toward far greater things that we can aspire to in the future.

Look into the history of the income tax in countries such as the UK, Canada, and the USA. You'll find it's a fairly recent idea, historically speaking. Whenever it was introduced (and it was usually temporary) it was done in order to finance a war.

Income tax as it is now known in the USA didn't become permanently enshrined until 1913. It didn't exist in Canada until it was brought in to finance the First World War effort. People were told at the time that it would be only a temporary measure....but it didn't turn out that way. The war ended and the income tax remained in place to this day. The new cash cow had been found, and the government wasn't about to let go of it!

Look up some articles on the history of the income tax in the USA, Canada, and the UK. It makes for some very interesting reading.

I'm not necessarily saying that I'm totally against the idea of having an income tax. I'm not sure. I'd like to know more about its historical development and other forms of taxation before venturing any firm opinion one way or the other.

The alternatives to an "income tax" are not progressive, LH... Every alternative that I've heard about is regressive meaning that we end up with those who can least afford it pay the lion's share...

People talk about a "value added" tax as some wonderful idea... The concept is simple... If you make anything then at each level the production of that something is taxed... In other words, if Ford builds a car then the tires on the car are taxed and as the car goes doen the assembly line it's ca-ching every time some component is bolted on to it... Bottom line??? The car cost's an extra $2000 and guess who ends up paying a disproportionate amount of the tax??? That's right... The working man...

Flat tax??? Even worse...

Sales taxes??? Regressive...

What the rich want is "privatization" meaning that "don't worry, bre happy", we'll fix the infrastructure... That's what Reagan pushed... Problem is that these folks ain't into anything other than making money for them... But they would love it if the government would turn everything over to them so they could suck more money out of you...

I mean, yer daughter wants to ride her trike on the sidewalk in front of your house... No problem... There will be a device on her little trike that allows Boss Hog Sidewalk, Inc. to suck some money out of you...

You want to drive to work... Same deal... You want to breath air... Boss Hog Air, Inc will sell it to you... Fuck... Boss Hog Gravity, Inc will bill you for gravity...

I don't see any other option in a modern world other than a progressive income tax... None... But if anyone has one I would certainly like to hear it... Sho nuff would...

Yup... Everyone is familiar with the various "statin drugs" that treaty high cholesterol, right... They were developed my the NIH... Yes, Big Pharma has gone to lengths to rewrite the history and clogged up search engines with their mythologies but NIH developed them...

This is what Boss Hog does... He steals, lies, cheats, changes the rules so that he get's the lion's share and then he buys Big Media to cover his sins with layers and layers of revisionistic bullshit, propaganda and mythology...

That is why, should I become elected president, that I will restore a "fairness doctrine" where if mythology is put out there for consumption that equal time be given for reality... And, BTW, the entire concept of habeas corpus goes back to the Magna Carta and the entire idea that corporations can now spend money in the name of "free speech" to attack other people and not even have to have put their face and name to the accusations is cowardly and wrong... A man deserves to face his accuser... That is a basicprinciple of our legal system...

Hey, Bobert? You may be right about the progressive income tax being the best approach. But I wonder how taxes were raised in the USA before 1913? They had no income tax. But the country was functioning just fine. So what was the primary tax base back then?

Same deal in Canada, by the way. We had no income tax prior to WWI. Income tax was brought in to finance the war effort, and it has remained in place ever since.

You know how countries normally finance wars, the most costly and destructive of all human follies? They do it through "deficit financing". In other words, they do it through debt. Given that the USA has been in a more or less continual state of war (either official or unofficial) since December 1941, I'm not that surprised that the country has gone so far into debt that it's gone bankrupt. The chickens had to come home to roost eventually.

****

I think Hillary probably will have a very serious go at the presidency in 2016. She's gonna be looking kinda "old" for the job by then...yeah...but I don't think that will stop her. We'll see. On the other hand, if things go badly enough in the next 4 years, then you might see a pendulum swing back to the Republicans, despite the hopeless lunacy of their general dogma...

I'm not making any predictions.

Can I be a Joint Chief of Staff? I have never worn a uniform but I could roll a tight one back in the day and I NEVER EVER used two papers unless it was a steamboat. Even then, I frowned on paperwork... efficiency expert, I am! Seriously, like a toothpick, man! Lick that puppy good and yer talkin true fire, eh? If you budget my orifice peroperly, I could roll spliffs too. Give me enough staff and matches and I will turn out some serious policy, eh?

Well, gn-ze... I am impressed... I liked the EZ Riders myself... But Joint Chief of Staff??? Nah... But I'll fit you in somewhere...

Yo, LH... Prior to federal income taxes, just about everything you did or bought or imported or imported or sold was taxed... The problem with these taxes is that they are highly regressive...

Ah, these threads can't be the same without the guests...
I'm showing up to cast my vote, all right. It won't feel good. But it would feel even worse if I didn't vote at all.

They are much better without the guests, because the trolls are excluded.

Without scanning the rest of this very old thread, my vote for Hillary will feel SPECTACULAR!!

Enough said.

I find this thread fascinating- perspicacious stuff. Although I doubt that in 2012 anyone pictured the Orange one in the race.

I like Bobert's platform. In the meantime I'm voting for Secretary Clinton.

Come back, Beaubear

I too think that Bobert's platform makes more sense than anything you are being offered. Too bad you have to settle for Hillary. But you do. In stopping Trump you are voting on behalf of the rest of the world. And you're protecting your country being seen as an Evil Empire.

Well, I asked for it, visiting the Greater Phoenix area just before the presidential election. And then I had to go and watch local television broadcasts when I got here.

The last time I was driving a rental car through the streets of Phoenix, and I posted this to a long-inactive thread, I drove past a bus stop with an enormous advertisement of big capital letters that said
GUNS SAVE LIVES
LEARN TO SHOOT STRAIGHT

Now I hear that Arizona has had registration, in the past three months, of some 120,000 voters. The question is, for whom they shall vote in one month's time.

I'm sure Sheriff Arpaio can answer that for you.

Yes, Mister Eff, Sheriff Arpaio was much in the news on the local television broadcast last night. For criminal convictions, unless I was half asleep and heard it wrong. He is also running for re-election. One local news broadcast went and interviewed an elderly American citizen who became nationalized after leaving his native Mexico decades ago. His car was pulled over, and he and his spouse were subjected to racial profiling, he claims; he wants to testify against Arpaio in court.

And John McClain is fighting to stay in the Senate, and debating his opponent officially on local television.

And then, Arizona has a proposition on the ballot about legal cannabis/marijuana. The proposition's opponents are paying heavily to run television ads featuring former elected-office-holders in Colorado where marijuana is legal, rattling off statistics about how many babies are born in Colorado hospitals with marijuana in their bloodstreams, and saying, Don't make the mistakes we did.

Pressure, anyone?

Surely the citizens of Maricopa County will eventually come to their senses. At least, the batch who haven't been voting for years will register to vote against Trump, and will eventually manage to throw Arpaio out on his ass. He's an embarrassment to the United States, but then, so was their governor Brewer, since Napolitano left and the twit took her place. Now they have a new governor and I don't know much about him - except that it's a he.

As to the presidential election - well - all I can say is that the Chinese curse "May you live in interesting times" is certainly playing out to be just that - a curse.

Perhaps there is no joy in Mudville.

However, Arpaio has been defeated in Maricopa County.
