Subject: BS: King Coal takes one up the ass!!!! From: catspaw49 Date: 16 Nov 12 - 02:48 PM We've talked many times here about coal mining and mountain top removal. While I could have gone to one of those threads, this news deserves a thread all by itself! After many years of activist and community activity and the involvement of several government agencies, the King has taken the first of what we all hope will be many up the ass. Read on and enjoy. I also want to thank Alice Flynn for posting this on FB. There are a goodly number of us who know all too well the dichotomy of coal but let's let the Feds know the need to pump in some bucks for continuing-new skills education and other living needs for workers and their families affected. As far as Patriot Coal goes......Fuck 'Em.....THIS is the most patriotic thing they have done! http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/49846957/ns/us_news-environment/ Patriot Coal Goes Out!! There are others that are feeling the same pressures. May they have the same fate. Spaw |

Subject: RE: BS: King Coal takes one up the ass!!!! From: kendall Date: 16 Nov 12 - 02:59 PM And here in Maine some people are bitching about the unsightly wind turbines on remote hill tops that produce electricity for .02 cents per kilowatt hour. |

From: gnu Date: 16 Nov 12 - 03:02 PM ""Patriot Coal may be the first company to cease mountaintop removal mining, but because of the tireless efforts of committed volunteers and community organizations, it certainly won't be the last," he said." Thanks. Our children can't eat coal. |

From: Ed T Date: 16 Nov 12 - 04:29 PM ""And daddy won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County Down by the Green River where Paradise lay Well, I'm sorry my son, but you're too late in asking Mister Peabody's coal train has hauled it away"" John Prine |

Subject: RE: BS: King Coal takes one up the ass!!!! From: catspaw49 Date: 16 Nov 12 - 05:52 PM And oddly enough, here's a thought for what to do next! Let's try some of THIS!!! Spaw |

Subject: RE: BS: King Coal takes one up the ass!!!! From: Janie Date: 16 Nov 12 - 07:47 PM Hope that project proves successful over the long haul, Pat. Hope the federal government continues to fund research in developing solar and other alternative energies and to support businesses and industries that do the same. But I don't think that is gonna be the answer for West Virginia. |

Subject: RE: BS: King Coal takes one up the ass!!!! From: catspaw49 Date: 16 Nov 12 - 08:00 PM Probably not Janie but at least someone is thinking. But when you look at what they've done with solar in Europe, there is a whole lot more we could be doing soI'll hold a good thought. We do need to be in there doing things in re-education and other things. Spaw |

Subject: RE: BS: King Coal takes one up the ass!!!! From: Bobert Date: 16 Nov 12 - 08:34 PM Weird... I had gone years since I had last sang John Prine's "Paradise" but have been doing it more and more lately... Actually stuck it in the middle of a blues set a couple weeks ago and it went over well... I loved the article about miners installing solar panels, Spawzer... That's justice... B~ |

Subject: RE: BS: King Coal takes one up the ass!!!! From: catspaw49 Date: 16 Nov 12 - 08:52 PM Hmmm...How about we take those destroyed, flattened, mountain tops and cover them with solar panels and tie them in to the grid? Okay, not good but wth? Gotta' come up with ideas....even from assholes like me! Spaw |
|
Subject: RE: BS: King Coal takes one up the ass!!!! From: Bobert Date: 16 Nov 12 - 09:30 PM How about we quit burning anything and put solar panels of every house in the country and tell Dick Cheney and Saudis to fuck off... B~ |

Subject: RE: BS: King Coal takes one up the ass!!!! From: MarkS Date: 17 Nov 12 - 12:42 AM The state-of -the-art for solar panels has to get better before that will work, but it is only a matter of time. Course if we properly sited our homes to take advantage of passive solar, and included large thermal masses in the living space (a large stone fireplace comes to mind) then we would need lots less energy from any source for heating. |

Subject: RE: BS: King Coal takes one up the ass!!!! From: Elmore Date: 17 Nov 12 - 11:25 AM Every time I listen to someone on the radio or tv, I get this image of totally destroyed mountains. As Kendall points out , we have to utilize alternatve energy asap. |

Subject: RE: BS: King Coal takes one up the ass!!!! From: gnu Date: 17 Nov 12 - 01:34 PM Besides the point, but I was amazed by what I saw on Google Earth when I took a tour of the "coal country" by tracing railroads if only for the sheer mass of the infrastructure built to haul coal. |
