I was once involved in a 4-player, 10 hour long, game of Crazy Eights.

Liquor may have been involved.....

Bobert, pleased to know you play bridge. We ever get together, we'll have to get a game going.

I played more jail house bridge, brucie... It's called "hearts" or "spades"... More "hearts" in jail... When I was a jail house teacher I would on occasion - like every Friday - play jail house bridge...

I got Chinese Checkers, Beeze... That is a good game... Very good...

My friends and I play "Mexican Train Dominoes" whenever we get together for an evening.

One son and his wife gave us "Ticket to Ride, Europe". I love to play it but the only people I can interest in playing it are another son and his wife, who sometimes stay overnight with us.

When we can get a large enough group together, "Court Whist" is fun.

I tried to learn to play Bridge, I even took a night school class. I was hopeless.

Ditto here too, Bobert. A jail is a jail. I was teaching in a max and the guys did enjoy it when they could show me card stuff. We used it in math. Good way to teach odds/probability.

Preemptives are are always a risk. But them's the chances. Sometimes ya win, sometimes ya lose, and sometimes ya play in the rain. Before I left there, I spent a class showing the guys some card tricks and how to do them. Was a good time now I think about it.

I prefer some conventions over others, but it's been a goodly long while since I've played any serious bridge. Great game.

Never did learn Chinese checkers. I'll look into it so's I can understand what you two are talking about.

Okay, Bobert, you bridge fanatic. Top this, if you can!

The second game of bridge I ever played -- EVER! -- I got bored and bid seven no. I played with the dummy, of course.

And made my bid.

I gave up bridge after that. Watching the two women who were teaching me throw the cards around like that, and the LANGUAGE they used!, just kinda put me off the game.

That and I figured I'd never get that good again so I should quit whilst I was ahead.....

Used to play S|olo Whist every lunch hour, in an office where I once worked. It's a god game, sorta bridge like but without the mystique and snobbery that some folks imbue it with.
I play Euchre a lot on the PC.
Used to play darts a lot too.
Gave it up in favour of torturing a guitar.

The other great Ontario card game (besides euchre) is cribbage, without which our ancestors would never have survived winter.

"sorta bridge like but without the mystique and snobbery that some folks imbue it with."

You are partly right about that, John. I have played the game for years and I get POed when people go all precious about it. It's (IMO) the best card game ever invented, but there are times . . .

My second favourite game is chess. I'm not world-class, but I enjoy it.

Mah Jong: The four-handed game (played with tiles or cards) similar game play to Rummy.
Not the tile-matching, Solitaire variant.

I used to play chess, but I didn't study the game, so I played VERY slowly. I won a lot, but people didn't like playing with me becase they got bored waiting for me to move.....maybe that's why I won. Haven't played in mny years.

Now?....ummmmm... Freecell on the PC. I win over 95%

My cousin and I used to play Uno all the time...when liquor was involved (often) we made it OUI Uno...

Right now my favorite game is Words with Friends which, for those who don't know, is basically online Scrabble.

Bruce, I never got Freecell either until someone showed me how it's played. It's really quite simple, but some hands can be very challenging. Unlike other computer Solitaire games, and unlike Freecell with real cards, every hand dealt by the computer version supposedly can be won. The challenge is in getting stumped on the first attempt and trying different strategies until you either win or pull your hair out.

Watch someone play a couple of hands and you'll catch right on.

Thank you. I will do that.

I got pissed a few weeks back and took a dog hair trimmer to my head. I have no hair I can grab at the moment, so this would be a good time to learn.

As a btw, I always did think you were the most humourous guy on Mudcat, and it is such a pleasure to see you posting again.

Scrabble is great and chess is fantastic. However my favorite game is Trivial Pursuit. To make it really interesting you get 3 of your friends (buddies) and when you answer a question correctly you get to take a shot of a B52. If you get a pie, you get 2 shots. oh my , what a night it can be.

Oh, Trivial Pursuit is fun, too. But after a certain date my knowledge of pop culture questions falls off. If there's an updated version, I would do poorly.

Also known as Buzzword Bingo to those of us still condemned to attend a certain kind of meeting.

I have an iPad-based version of Scrabble that gives me a good game. I haven't played against a worthy opponent since my mother-in-law died. Now, there was a certified shark -- unassuming little Welsh lady, widow of a clergyman, and she could Scrabble for Canada.

Rummoli is another favorite.
