New place takes some getting used to as not used to living with other people. Really don't like waiting for things but 10x better than other places – they seem to actually want to do more for me so I'm not just a # on a chart or door. The other places were smart but with no character & the staff weren't as nice. Still don't feel I'm settling in as well as I should. I feel like a nuisance & that they'll stop being so nice as soon as my "probation" stops (when I become permanent) I've been playing loads of Maddy Prior to help me get through it. Her stuff does help a lot. Got said signed photo of her in 1st week, she'd personalised it for me. I got really emotional. No complaints so far about music; in fact the staff & residents luv it, wonder what it is/who's singing & are constantly asking me to put it on. |

" I've had some very 'unsettled' times, challenging health issues, including homelessness for a period, and finding traditional songs has been very emotionally grounding somehow. These old songs are like ancient oak trees, there's a place of rest where you can set yourself in any old tree where you feel held and safe in the knowledge of steady endurance over time, however hard the winds blow, whatever changes appear in the landscape surrounding, here is something sure and certain, unmoved by whatever form of turbulence may come and go. I've even found myself welling up and weeping unknown pain away just listening to an album of funny old folkies singing funny old songs. Difficult thing to explain, but I think I may understand what you mean. |
