Subject: BS: Free Speech Protection Simple Concept. From: Jack the Sailor Date: 17 Sep 12 - 04:37 PM To our British friends who seem confused. Contrary to what Mr. Romney, The Tea Party and other constitutional numbnuts on this side of the pond seem to be saying when they criticize President Obama, constitutionally protected free speech does not entitle the speaker to agreement. The only protection is from punishment (eg, fines, harassment, detention) BY THE GOVERNEMENT. You are entitled to produce any kind of sick stupid hateful political material you want, subject to the laws that govern any other "works of art." But someone in an Embassy can scream from the rooftops until the cows come home that the material is offensive and stupid and does not fit American values until without infringing on anyone's rights. I hope this is clear. |
