From The National Memo:
Kansas Considers Removing the President from Ballot after Birther Challenge
September 14th, 2012 2:31 p.m., by Henry Decker

Kansas Secretary of State and Mitt Romney adviser Kris Kobach is considering removing President Barack Obama from his state's ballot in November, in response to the lingering conspiracy theory about Obama's birth certificate.

The Kansas State Objections Board — which consists of Kobach, Attorney General Derek Schmidt, and Lieutenant Governor Jeff Coyer — have delayed a decision on a complaint from a Kansas resident claiming that Obama is ineligible to run for president until Monday.

"There is substantial evidence showing that much of Mr. Obama's alleged birth certificates have been forged or doctored, and have not been confirmed as legally valid, true and accurate," the complaint reads, according to The Topeka Capital-Journal.

There is, of course, no serious evidence that Obama's birth certificate has been forged — but that hasn't stopped Kobach from seriously considering the challenge

"I don't think it's a frivolous objection," Kobach told the Capital-Journal. "I do think the factual record could be supplemented."

The board is now sending requests to officials in Hawaii, Arizona, and Mississippi to secure copies of President Obama's birth records, and will reconvene on Monday to discuss the findings.

In addition to serving as Kansas Secretary of State, Kobach has advised Republican nominee Mitt Romney in both of his presidential runs. Kobach, a noted extremist on immigration issues, wrote Arizona and Alabama's hardline anti-immigration laws, and also served as chief legal counsel to the Immigration Reform Law Institute. That is the legal arm of the Federation for American Immigration Reform. a hate group which, according to its founder, strives to preserve "a European-American majority, and a clear one at that."
I'm afraid I've reached an entirely new level of disgust at the lengths to which Republicans are willing to go!!

I'm with you, Bill...

If I were Obama I'd tell Kansas to "Kiss my ***..." Might of fact, there are a few other states that would get the same invite...

Don't be surprised. There are NO lengths to which them people will not go to win an election. If they think it might work they'll do it.

And ya know what? This ain't a new tactic. It's been done before. There was another election way back in 1880 when the Democratic party falsely accused the Republican party's VP candidate, Chester A. Arthur, of bein' born outside the USA.

William Arthur's frequent moves would later form the basis for accusations that Chester Arthur was not a native-born citizen of the United States. After Arthur was nominated for Vice President in 1880, his political opponents suggested that he might be constitutionally ineligible to hold that office.[9] A New York attorney, Arthur P. Hinman, apparently hired by his opponents, explored rumors of Arthur's foreign birth.[10] Hinman initially alleged that Arthur was born in Ireland and did not come to the United States until he was fourteen years old, which would make him ineligible for the Vice Presidency under the United States Constitution's natural-born citizen clause.[10][c] When that story did not take root, Hinman spread a new rumor that Arthur was born in Canada, but this claim also failed to gain credence.[10]

In those days the Democrats and Republicans were each strongest in the opposite parts of the country where they are the strongest now.

So you can argue the significance of it any way you want to. What it says to me is that political parties will try throwin' anything they think will stick.

How many electoral votes are we talking about? If it is enough to change the results, the loser could appeal the election on the grounds of bias.

Although there are times when I think it would be a good idea to cut Kansas' moorings and let it drift out to sea (small problem geographically), there are some nice people in Kansas, and some of the more educated ones are Democrats and Progressives.

My mother was born in Kansas, and my wife has some very nice relatives who live there, one of whom is a retired professor of political science with whom I've had some interesting and enlightening discussions (he's a progressive Democrat).

If Korbach gets away with this, they will be denied their right to vote for the candidate of their choice. And considering the egregious hanky-panky between the Electoral College and the Supreme Court that cost Gore the election—when he had actually won the popular vote, despite Florida's denial of voters' rights to a number of eligible people, it has become obvious that these people DON'T CARE how the electorate actually votes, they want to win not matter what they have to do.

They're trying to pull stunts that even Machiavelli hadn't thought of!!

If Romney and Ryan get in, things in this country are going to be far worse than most Americans can imagine could ever happen here!

Interestingly enough, aside from our fouding fathers, the only presidential candidate not born in the US was Barry Goldwater (except for a technicality, John McCain would join him)

The curious thing is that nobody would take "natural-born fool" or "natural-born musican" as meaning "native-born".

McGrath,

One of the qualifications for President is being born a US citizen.

But that does not mean someone has to be born within the United States. It means being a citizen of the United States at the time of birth.

If a parent is American, you are a natural-born citizen, just as you would normally be if you were native born, even if your parents were not Americans.

It's not exactly rocket science...

Kevin, U.S. citizenship requires that the person in question must be born within the United States or its territories, or at least one parent must be a U.S. citizen. If one parent is a U.S. citizen, even if the child is born abroad, then the child is also a citizen.

Barack Obama makes it on two counts: his father may have been Kenyan, but his mother was born in the aformentioned state of Kansas, which is dead-center in the U.S., and Barack was born in Hawaii, which had, a few years before his birth, officially become a state.

Also, the birth certificate that the "birthers" are claiming is not a real birth certificate says at the top "Certificate of Live Birth." Their claim is that this merely says that he was born alive as opposed to stillborn, and is not an actual birth certificate,

The governor of Hawaii, however, has said repeatedly that this IS Hawaii's official birth certificate, and that they ALL bear that heading.

I think the main problem that the "birthers" have is that Obama is Black (actually, mixed race, which in some peoples' minds is even worse--"the mongrelization of the races"), but they dare not say so because that reveals that they are racist bigots, and the idea of having a Black (or "mongrel") president is intolerable to them. Especially if he also happens to be a Democrat.

The latest on the election stealing front:

Just heard this on the radio this morning. The State of Texas is purging the voter rolls of older voters on the assumption that they are dead.

And if you are one of those voters who have been purged, you must call or write and inform the Powers That Be that are who you say you are and that you are still alive. You can't just assume that you're still on the voters' registry or you may be turned away at the polls.

One woman (a 52 year-old nurse—Black) who received notice that she was dead was told that she could reinstate herself on the registry by calling a certain telephone number. She called the number and was put on hold. She was on hold for over an hour before she gave up. So she called again. And again. For three days running, she called the phone number and was put on hold—and LEFT there!

Others have reported the same experience.

Interesting to note that the vast majority of living Texans who have recently been declared dead are Black. And/or registered Democrats.

Well . . . Texas is the state that replaced Governor Ann Richards with George W. Bush. Then, when Bush became president, replaced him with Rick Perry.

Maybe the water's gone bad . . . .

I love grammar. From the article by Henry Decker quoted in the OP:

"The Kansas State Objections Board — which consists of Kobach, Attorney General Derek Schmidt, and Lieutenant Governor Jeff Coyer — have delayed a decision on a complaint from a Kansas resident claiming that Obama is ineligible to run for president until Monday."

Then it is only a problem if the election is on Sunday. Since the election will be a Tuesday, he will clearly be eligible.

Sorry Henry Decker (and your editor)...

Haha!
