This collective have damn good jokes, quotes and perspectives.

Fleeting good ideas if not written down get lost like yesterday's dream

I had an idea a minute ago regarding Football helmets and concussions.

! How about using automotive crush designs to help protect the brain?!

The helmut might only last a game or two but it would lessen the shocks by 90%, look really dramatic and aid in leaving evidence of the vector and energy of the hit.

I rate this idea *** out of 4.

The weather report has become greatly expanded these days to include earthquake, tsunami, jet stream, Derecho, UV,fire&smoke, air quality and many other things.
I think it should also include the global severity and location of right wing violence storms. It will show how Eastern right wing violence highs feed off the lows of Western right wing reactionaries.

rated **

Are these helmets intended for American Football or British Soccer?

When I was still teaching I often wished for a button I could push to erase the chalkboard and another to wash it.

After any single collision, cars need to be repaired to reach the same level of safety. You are talking about helmets, for linemen anyway that have to be replaced after every play.

Some "good" ideas are best forgotten.

Get up to date, ChanteyLass - it's a whiteboard, the button is marked 'Delete' & washing is not advised.

Good idea for 15 years ago, though :-)

Eliminate the Filibuster forever.

Pass only 2 year Federal budgets mirroring the House Cycle.

Eliminate the redundant need to vote to pay federal bills (debt ceiling vote)

Any good ideas for getting rid of yello-jacket wasps that hover around food, especially in autumn?

I use a badmonton racket-since many flying animals have many hairs that can detect (and avoid) the smallest of air vibrations coming their way from swatters etc.

But, any better method to Zap them, or lure them elsewhere would benefit those in society that are very alergic to 'em.

Ah, but Newport Boy, there were no whiteboards in my classroom when I was a teacher, though there may be now.

Toward the end of my career I used a transparency projector a lot. I could face the class while writing or watching children write on the transparencies. I could have some things permanently printed on them, and we used water-soluble ink for the rest. At the end of the day I could rinse them off. Those were the days when I taught second graders cursive writing. I would have the lines permanently printed on the transparencies, then use the water-soluble ink pens to show the children how to form the letters, then call them up to practice. Of course they also practiced on paper. By the next day the transparencies would be clean and dry but the lines would remain and we could use the same ones again to practice different letters, words, etc.

ChanteyLass-
Harbor Freight sells an inexpensive electronic fly-swatter that zaps 'en in mid-air. I've been told that it works well.

Ed T. Just talk nicely to those yellow jackets and they won't sting you. You can dip your finger in your beer and hand feed them.

Other good ideas.

Keep an extra length between you and the car in front. It is the difference between a near miss and a fender bender.

Don't drink coffee if you have a backache. The last thing you need is to wake up those nerves.

I always liked the idea that stated: In order to put a new law on the statute book an existing one has to be repealled.

That would keep the amount of laws down, make sure that the new one was more important that at least one of the existing ones and get rid of the out-dated ones.

At first it would be a good idea to repeall two laws for every new one so that a manageable number could be approached!

Ed..."Any good ideas for getting rid of yello-jacket wasps that hover around food, especially in autumn?"

Jam, baby, jam. They'll go to a small bit of jam on a plate placed at the end of the table and leave everything/body else alone.

BTW... don't kill them. That will make you more trouble. Killed hornets and such emit a pheromone that urge the others to attack whatever that scent is on... maybe you.

Badminton racket? Cool... I use a squash racket. And, I prefer Yellow Dot! >;-)

Wasps are going for the sugar. Invent something that metabolizes sugar.

Outlaw political parties.
Politicians must represent only their constituencies.
Huge penalties for politicians who try to form parties.

Export prisons to China, and make prison officers here into policemen. (Wherever 'here' is.)
Why not! They are ready enough to export other industries and jobs.

Small-boat sailors are always worried about being run down by great big ships that can't see them on radar, as a small boat doesn't give much of a return, especially in bad weather.

British scientists in WWII developed "window" - the code name for bunches of aluminium foil, cut into strips of a certain size and shape. When thrown out of aircraft, they formed huge radar echos which totally fooled the German anti-aircraft radars and made it impossible to track them.

Sooo ... why don't we make our sails and weave window strips into the sailcloth (or stick 'em onto the outside of it)? That way, a sailboat with sails set might have a huge radar echo which could easily be spotted by big-ship radar.

Just an idea. An since Mudcat posts are timed and dated, I claim intellectual property rights on it!

Oh no they don't! Our yacht had one of the best radar reflectors (fender type) permanently fitted and we still had our share of near-misses. The only thing that really, really works is in fact the transponder, which actively sends a radar return when painted by another set. That's why aircraft carry them.

No, the sails idea was a thought aimed at improving the passive return from a sailing yacht. I had no idea that it had already bee tried - would be grateful for any references to this you might have.

A good idea is a good idea- but it seems that someone somewhere has not only thought of it first but it is already implemented somewhere. Put sufficient multiples of millions on earth and precious little gets by us.

Reminds me of when I got the good idea of creating attractive turbans with attached natural-looking hair for the use of people who have lost their hair due to illness or treatment. Turned out that it is a thriving business.

Along those same lines, it has often surprised me when I needed some esoteric thing and was directed as to where to go to find that the needed, never-before-heard-of-by-me shop was not only busy but there was a waiting list. What's up with that?

To off set the 2,500 giga tones of CO2 from the remaining fossil fuel buring that could last up to 200 years and another 2,500 giga tons of CO2 from permafrost melting, wild fires and fracking gone wild,,,,,,
build solar powered molecular vibration units and pumps to split CO2 into Carbon that can be buried and release the O into the air.

The frequency is specific as it is for H2O to be split into H and O by sound waves alone. We have had this knowledge for 40 years but have not developed the technolgy on a very large scale.

This is a very quick fix compared to moderation alone.
I had this idea this morning and realize that a quick fix is mandatory.
Remember, the initial estimates of a 2F degree increase for the globe in 20 years? It is is now revised upwards to 7 degrees F.

Jobs jobs jobs_ we could hire people to bury the carbon by hand... in old coal mines. (Puttin back the coal, puttin back the coal, we will all rejoice then puttin back the coal.)

Who knows along with Burt Rutan's solar airplanes with could have flying methane spliters flying for weeks at a time while raining carbon dust as it removes green house gases.

Oh yeah, these huge ground based molecular splitting units will have to run for the next 200 years 24/7 worldwide.

Just 15 minutes ago I found/invented a way to magnify the acoustic resonance for ALL acoustic string instruments. There is also a damper to limit the extra sustained resonance. It requires the manufacture of specialized CFS's and is entirely invisible except for the damper button where the neck joins with the body. The damper button has 3 positions; all on, all off or variable.

No electricity needed although the effect would be captured by amplified acoustic instruments. The main resonator can be made of stiff carbon fiber, steel or precious metals.

This has 20 times more powerful resonance compared to the violin resonators at the turn of the century.

This is a BFD for luthiers or those interested in such advancements.

#2 idea, the brief repeater: a device that will play back up to a minute of the sounds in your enviornment. For that npr interview you couldnt make out the first time or the phone number mentioned. Unlike a hearing aid nothing touches your ear. A runining loop of 1 hr of audio could be enhanced later on your computer for HD sound or distant sounds you might prefer not to hear.

#3 idea, Publish picture of Boehner golfing this coming Friday, twiddling as Rome burns sequestrationally -
