Hiya,

I've got a consultation with my new "home" about room colours, etc. I can't think of colours yet (my room is very, very dark) but I am thinking of pictures. This place is permanent so I know if I have a photo of my parents/dog up it'll upset me (even though they'll still be coming to see me & I them).

I've got a picture of a hare with Isobel Gowdie's spell on, & will have my hare statue in the garden. Was thinking of a picture of Maddy Prior somewhere but I can't find a decent one. I had photos of band members up when I was at college & people kept asking if they were my parents!!

For most pictures "antique white" works fine... And it will brighten up your room... White white ain't a good choice... Too harsh... As for the dog??? Find a place where tha picture could go and find something else you like that is about the same size... Put Pooch up when they are coming and tqake it down when you see their tail lights driving away...

B~

Claire, I have lived in countless student 'lets' and bedsits. Most of them were a bit dark and dingy. But I found that strategic lighting, (small lamps etc) cheered them up no end. And bright, cheerful curtains. Also cushion covers made of chirpy material. These small things make a huge difference. There are several sites on the internet selling posters of many kinds quite inexpensively. I used to put up posters in my bedsits, and they covered a lot of wall, being fairly large! I do hope you feel 'at home' very soon, and settle in. Good luck and best wishes. Eliza x

Another thing I like in a room that hasn't enough windows is to *create* one, complete with curtains. You can either paint an out-the-window scene yourself or find one with the required perspective. It works. :)

Hi, Claire. You said you can't think of colors yet, but now is the time to take advantage of the offer to paint. I know the number of choices is overwhelming, so let me tell you about something.

I was reading a book by a successful decorator once, and she wrote something that has stayed with me. She said that she used to ponder colors, worrying about what was in style, what was artistic, what color had what mood...

And then one day, she just asked herself, "What's my favorite color? Forget all that other stuff, I'm just going to use my favorite color!" and she did. And she tells her clients the same.

So what's your favorite color? Change those dark, dark walls and have your room painted your favorite color. If you especially like your picture of the hare, choose a shade that's in that picture. You'll be glad you did.

As for a picture of Maddy Prior, perhaps she would send you one. I know that movie stars used to send fans autographed pictures of themselves. Perhaps Maddy would do it for you. Check her website and see if you can send her a letter or message.

Hiya,

i've got the best wallpaper ever. It's black with silver tree-like things & looks just like an enchanted forest. I've wanted a wishing well ornament in the garden since I was little because of aforementioned luv of Steeleye – 'The Wife Of Usher's Well' being my favourite of theirs.

As for said photo of Maddy; seeing her photo on my wall would definitely cheer me up. I've heard Steeleye are touring in 6mo so I could either wait for them & try to get one that way or do what you've suggested, Leeneia. If I do what you've suggested, I'm not sure whether to put my address or the home's.

I've got a friend in another place whose mum's a dead ringer for Maddy, similar dress sense & everything (couldn't believe my eyes) – she must've thought I was a bit strange because I was chatting away but I couldn't look at her.
