Subject: RE: BS: Off to Occupy DNC Today... From: Bobert Date: 02 Sep 12 - 07:54 PM I am beat... The march ended up at least three miles moving at about 1 mph and I drummed almost the entire march in 92 degrees and extremely humid... Got home and went right to bed and didn't move for an hour... Still very tired but it was a blast... Met some real nice folks... One guy came up to me and said "Hey, I remember you... I made a video of Occupy Charlotte last fall and your are in it and lots of folks who have viewed it say they remembered you... Must a had a goober hangin' out my nose...lol... Very tired... Subject: RE: BS: Off to Occupy DNC Today... From: Bobert Date: 02 Sep 12 - 09:07 PM BTW... The entire march once we made it to "up town" turned into a part atmosphere 'cause hundreds and hundreds of DNC delegates lined the street behind the portable fences and seemed to be enjoying the march and the entertainment... Musta been somethin' for them having just arrived in a strange city and here the street was closed in fron of their hotel with a couple thousand rowdy protesters... No one felt threatened even though the police way over re-acted with way too many cops... Way too many... B~ |

Subject: RE: BS: Off to Occupy DNC Today... From: Sawzaw Date: 04 Sep 12 - 07:25 AM "I challenge you to find a real Occupier who supports either Romney or Obama." More Occupiers protest Democratic convention than RNCAbout a half a mile away from the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, more than 100 protesters affiliated with the Occupy Wall Street movement are camped out in tents and on sleeping pads in a sweltering local park. The protest turnout has already far exceeded that of Tampa, when the threat of a hurricane derailed East Coast activists' plans to come down by bus and camp out in a tent city they dubbed "Romneyville." Protests at the RNC were so sparse that the local police chief cancelled several planned press conferences that would have addressed the force's response to activists. The largest protest event only attracted 300 people, while a coalition of 1,000 Occupy and other protesters already squashed that record in a march on Sunday in Charlotte. Ryan Lash, an Occupier from Washington D.C., told Yahoo News on Monday that despite the group's bigger presence in Charlotte, the protesters equally dislike Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. "We don't like either side," the shirtless Lash said. "I challenge you to find a real Occupier who supports either Romney or Obama." |

Subject: RE: BS: Off to Occupy DNC Today... From: Bobert Date: 04 Sep 12 - 09:07 AM I find no problems being both an Occupier and one who will vote for Obama... The trickle down, unregulated plan has shown to be a complete failure... This weekend's demonstration was my 5th major one here in Charlotte and was as tiresome as any I have even been involved with... My arms still ache from drumming but... ...it's important that we don't give the Dems a pass because we know the Republicans don't give a shit about Occupy and the Dems do... We got a lot of thumbs up from the hundreds and hundreds of delegates... They are aware of the issues of income inequality and corruption of the Big Boys... We (the P-Vine went with me) were in Charlotte again yesterday for the festival and tour the art museums and it started to pour down rain and we ran for a parking deck and were huddled up inside with a number of delegates... The P-Vine mentioned to a couple that I had been there the day before as part of Occupy and these people were very supportive... Nice conversations... B~ |

My hat is off to them... These kids are out future and they are extremely smart... BTW, here's a funny story... I wasn't sure where we were supposed to go so some kids got on the train that I just knew were going so I tagged along with them... They were real nice kids... Anyway, one told me that they had come from Asheville, NC and were part of the UNC-Asheville SDS chapter... I said, "Cool, I was part of the 60's SDS" which they thought was cool and then I said "I knew 3 of the 'Chicago 7" to which they all looked at me with blank stares... Oh well??? lol... B~ |

Subject: RE: BS: Off to Occupy DNC Today... From: Bobert Date: 04 Sep 12 - 04:48 PM Yeah, I knew some folks who were part of the Weather Underground, i.e. Weathermen... Big deal... If you were an anti-war activist back then you'd go to conferences where workshops were held... Everyone kinda knew everyone else... I also knew White Panthers, Black Panthers, SCLC, SOC, SCLC folks... There really wasn't this big difference between folks... Actually, thinking back, I only knew two the the 7... I met Abbie Hoffman in Phillie and Jerry Rubin in Charlottesville, Va... Also met William Kunstler in C-ville at the same conference... Like I said, hey, every was just regular people out there fighting to stop a stupid war and ism's... I never thought of any of it as a big deal... Now my trip to Ann Arbor was a different story as I spent two lousy days in a Detroit jail cell for no reason whats so ever other than cops could arrest you if they didn't like the way you looked... Detroit was a cool town... It's cops were assholes... Same with Philly's cop and Frank Russo was King Prick of all Chiefs of Police in America... That was one man who deserves a good ass whup... Seems that there has been at least one arrest in Charlotte today on Stonewall Street... Maybe more by now... B~ |

Subject: RE: BS: Off to Occupy DNC Today... From: Bobert Date: 05 Sep 12 - 03:18 PM We had a few whacks, Jack... We even had a handful of Republican Tea Party "plants with slick, expensive signs that read, We want out country back" but everyone just ignored them... There was one group, The Socialist Workers, who seemed to hate everyone and everything... I recall them from the 60s... They would come to our Radical Student Union (SDS affiliate) meeting and try to divert our anti-war focus toward their little beefs and then call us say we were part of the establishment for not going along with what they wanted... Never happy... B~ |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Off to Occupy DNC Today... From: ChanteyLass Date: 05 Sep 12 - 04:05 PM I didn't know there was still an SDS! I did know one member of the Progressive Labor Party. A few other SDS members considered joining the PLP but ultimately decided not to. |

Subject: RE: BS: Off to Occupy DNC Today... From: Bobert Date: 05 Sep 12 - 04:10 PM Yeah, I was surprised to find that SDS is still around myself, C-Lass... Subject: RE: BS: Off to Occupy DNC Today... From: Bobert Date: 05 Sep 12 - 07:19 PM That war was started by Ike and JFK... More by JFK who, BTW, was a tad too sensitive to being framed as a commie-lover by the Republican hawks... A month before his assassination he told his Chief of Staff that Nam was a bad idea and that after the '64 election he would pull out... He felt that if he pulled out before the '64 election he would be pounded by the McCrathy-ite Republicans as a commie-lover... As for who ended it??? Well, in the '68 campaign Richard Nixon said he had a "secret plan" for ending the Vietnam war... Well, it must have been so secret that he didn't even know it... Some 7 years later and 30,000 more Americans killed the US had to pull out because, contrary to Tin Foil Nation who to this very day think that US could have won that war if it had stayed, it was apparent that there was no victory to be had and that between the North Vietnamese and the Viet Cong the US was just going to continue down a losing path... Any other questions, Sawz??? B~ |

Subject: RE: BS: Off to Occupy DNC Today... From: Bobert Date: 05 Sep 12 - 08:02 PM I think he meant "red" as in "communism", Gn-ze... Yeah, it's outdated but that's about it... As for Nixon sucking up to the Chinese??? I think that is somewhat delusional... Nixon thought that if he opened up relations with the Chinese that it might help the US with trade and perhaps ending the war... His doing that was one of the few things that Nixon did that was the correct thing to do... B~ |

Subject: RE: BS: Off to Occupy DNC Today... From: Bobert Date: 05 Sep 12 - 08:19 PM No, Krinkx, I don't... But if you look at the big picture, it has been somewhat good for both countries... Where I have problems is where American made goods have been outsourced but... ...there are some goods that the US shouldn't be involved in making... The problem is that Boss Hog, Inc. doesn't understand what we should be making and what the Chinese should be making... It comes down to the economic concept of folks producing what they can best produce... I mean... if we look at the US as a model with each state being a country... There is a reason why rice isn't produced in Arizona and why lobster come from Maine... In a perfect world that addresses a global economy if everyone did what they do best we would have a better world... B~ |

Subject: RE: BS: Off to Occupy DNC Today... From: Bobert Date: 05 Sep 12 - 08:39 PM No, Krinkz... We didn't throw Taiwan under the bus... Over the years we have done lots of naval exercises with Taiwan to send a message to mainland China that it needed to leave Taiwan alone and between the diplomacy, the trade and the exercises we have been supportive of Taiwan... I mean, mainland could have taken Taiwan any time it wanted but it hasn't... No bus there... Guess again... B~ |

Subject: RE: BS: Off to Occupy DNC Today... From: Don Firth Date: 05 Sep 12 - 08:59 PM The problem, Krinkle-baby, is that a lot of "Chinese crap" is not crap. Some of it is quite high quality. Case in point: when I bought my current computer, a Hewlett¬-Packard (good, solid American name) laptop with 17" screen, a half-terabyte hard-drive, a CD/DVD player-burner complete with "light-scribe," and all kinds of other nice bells and whistles, I was not aware that most Hewlett-Packards are made in China. My computer is top-quality. No complaints whatever. And I know of other Chinese products that are excellently constructed. So that "it's all crap" bit doesn't wash. I would buy American if the quality were comparable, but one often does not KNOW where a product is made. There are more American-made parts in a Toyota than there are in a Chevrolet. In fact, Toyota has several plants here in the U. S., employing American workers. I also own a Toyota. Don Firth |
