Went into Weymouth last night, and the whole place was virually empty. Normally on a warm summer's night, the streets and restaurants would be full. The businesses must be going broke.

I thought maybe it was the rumours of savage parking restrictions - all the parking places - normally full, were empty and restricted to resident permit holders. We wanted to go to a Show of hands Concert but we couldn't get near enough for me, with my dickie heart and Denise with her arthritis, to get within reachable distance of the venue.

The whole front , the harbourside, the town centre were empty.

Theres just been a report on telly that Central London is the same - completely empty. Pictures of an empty Oxford Street! What the hell is happening. Is it just places involved in the Olympics?

Is this nationwide, are Blackpool and Skegness empty too?

have the weeks of rain dampened all our spirits?

Someone's buggered up - we should be doing record breaking business.

People who are sport minded are either glued to the TV, or present at an event.
Those like myself with no interest in sport, will be keep away from all centres of sporting activity. Or places that have Olympic events ongoing.
Funny thing though, so many people can't believe that a man is not interested in most sport, and look at one askance when the fact is mentioned.
So that's me and Kendall then is it? :)

I'm not a bettor - betting hurts my stomach - but I do like seeing mammals of practically any kind straining to be the best they can be. That's true whether it is physical or mental or even emotional.

The energy usually devoted to sport (whether watching or participating) is completely involved with music.

I happen to be reasonably [I hope] interested in some sports, particularly tennis & football which I played as a young man. And even many that I have no particular interest in [swimming, gymnastics, road cycling...] I am finding to furnish some enjoyable whiles of tv watching. But I have absolutely no issue with other men who find them all a bore. There must be a million things that all of you taken together find of all-consuming interest which leave me entirely cold. But what of it?

Who are all these men out there who affect to despise other men who show no interest in sport? I don't believe I know any of them.

Some people may just not have much money to go out and shop, or pay for parking, or eat out, or go to a show etc. Also, those who do have spare cash have probably gone out of the country with their children in search of some sunshine.

I dont know about the rest of the country , but SO many people have been telling us NOT travel anywhere in Central London during the Games
that the Theatres and Restaurants are about 20% DOWN on normal trade
Also , because LOCOG pre booked so many hotel rooms , then cancelled too late for any one to book them the hotels are empty.
Rather than being a boost to the country's economy the bloody Olympics are going to REALLY screw the entitre country .

I too hate all this sport and olympics shit. Most people one meets who are "sporty" are complete grunts. It was all the thickest thugs at school who were fanatical about association football.

Don, however is fanatical about grand prix, and I don't mind a bit of motor racing although my favourites were supersaloons.

With all due respect, Leadfingers, that's a fairly absurd thing to say. London's tourism takings being down for a couple of weeks is not going to screw the entire country economically.

Also, the hotels are not empty. You're being over dramatic.

Down here in Weymouth - its front page news. People have been buggered about for three years as they put together fancy traffic schemes. Money is draining out of the town. people are ging to go broke if some bugger doesn't take responsibility for the situation and DO something!

We plan to visit London again, this time to 'do' the museums at South Kensington and the big stores in Oxford Street etc. But not until all this Olympic stuff is well and truly over. Probably thousands have said the same thing.

All the reports are that this IS the ideal time to visit , as Oxford Street is very quiet and the Museums are empty !
So after the weekend , EVERYONE will flock in , and the Forecasters of Chaos will be proved right ! LOL
