Some wonderful traditional crafts demonstrated; weaving, basket-making, carving etc. Animals all superb, lots to see. BUT, why oh why must they have extremely loud and thumpy modern music belting out? I know we must include The Young, but this is an agricultural show in a rural county. Some years there's a bit of Morris dancing and a maypole and a Punch-and-Judy, but not this time. Why not some Folk Music? The boom boom boom got on our nerves, it was louder than you can imagine! Am I just too old? Does anyone else go to a County Show, and is it the same where you live? |

We are very conscious that our core attendance is over 50 and need to encourage younger people to attend in order to secure the future of the Show, whilst at the same time maintaining our traditional values around agriculture in other areas - something I think we still achieve very well. I am pleased with the music stage that Access to Music provided, which contained a variety of music styles over the two days. There were also a number of media and sport activities for youngsters to try, as well as play activities for little ones. The Punch & Judy was in this section. We had received a number of feedback comments that the Village Green was 'tired' and needed modernising, so made some significant changes this year and tried something completely different. I appreciate the music could be loud at times, so certainly something for us to look at next year - hopefully with a larger budget and some sponsorship for the area, we can include many new things next time, perhaps both traditional and modern.
