Subject: BS: Ornithologist hears the sound of ... From: JohnInKansas Date: 06 May 12 - 08:02 PM A perhaps unusual report by a birdwatcher offers something new to look (or listen) for on your next trip ... thousands of caterpillars ... Anyone else got any interesting sights or sounds from the slightly unusual seasons we've had recently. John |

Subject: RE: BS: Ornithologist hears the sound of ... From: Newport Boy Date: 07 May 12 - 03:36 AM Don't think it's anything to do with the weather, but on a walk last Thursday along the Severn I heard an unusual bird call as I climbed a grassy bank. It resembled a melodious squeaky hinge. We couldn't identify it, but it must have followed me home, because I heard it again as I went upstairs. Turns out my 6-year old hip replacement has started to squeak! Phil |

Subject: RE: BS: Ornithologist hears the sound of ... From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 07 May 12 - 06:43 AM I have one of those metal folding walking sticks. The first time I used it I heard this whistling sound. Everytime I stopped to look for the bird the sound stopped. I realised it was the wind blowing through the holes meant for height adjustment. Perhaps I should learn to play it! (cries of "NO! For God'd sake, NO!) RtS |
