Subject: RE: BS: May the 4th be with you From: JohnInKansas Date: 03 May 12 - 08:29 AM Last night I was in one of the larger retail shops and they were starting to put out some things labelled as "seasonal merchandise" that included lots of wrapping and mailing stuff. Stuff specific to a particular holiday weren't blatently obvious, but merchandising preparations for the xmas season apparently have already started to appear here. Maybe the sellers in your area are a little retarded(?). John |

Subject: RE: BS: May the 4th be with you From: ChanteyLass Date: 03 May 12 - 10:57 PM Why, thank you, Mr Red. Rhode Island Independence Day is indeed tomorrow, so you are only a day early. http://www.timeanddate.com/holidays/us/rhode-island-independence-day |

Subject: RE: BS: May the 4th be with you From: Ebbie Date: 03 May 12 - 11:11 PM I would have to be standing behind Mendenhall Glacier, Rap, if I wanted to be run over by it. It is receding rapidly. Before too many years they will have to build a parking lot on the other side of the lake so people can park and walk to the glacier around the corner... |

Subject: RE: BS: May the 4th be with you From: CupOfTea Date: 04 May 12 - 02:40 PM In Ohio, May 4th usually brings to mind the Kent State shootings. I was at a sing around in Kent Wednesday night, where we sang songs of peace and marked Pete Seeger's upcoming birthday with Where Have all the Flowers Gone and If I had a Hammer. We didn't sing (Four Dead in) Ohio for which I'm thankful. It IS sort of a yearly nudge on May 4th to realize that the "Peace Movement" is into second and third generations since the 70s. Joanne in Cleveland (a good hour from Kent) |

Subject: RE: BS: May the 4th be with you From: ChanteyLass Date: 04 May 12 - 03:22 PM Although I'd forgotten the exact date, I haven't forgotten those shootings. I was a senior at Rhode Island College. We had a student strike and the remaining days were filled with teach-ins. I can't imagine being on the Kent State campus at the time of the shootings. It must have been terrifying and, for those who knew the victims, heart-breaking. The sing-around must have been healing. I'm glad to know it took place. |
