College basketball season is the only time of year I find myself seriously considering getting a television and cable.

5 ACC teams, including Carolina as a #1 seed, plus West Virginia, Davidson and UNC Ashville got invited to the dance. I now have a still-in-the-box 37" flat screen hdtv I won in a charity auction 2 months ago. Must...not...call...Time-Warner Cable in the throes of my annual infatuation.

Go Tarheels!

Call 'em.......I love the flatscreeen hd's to watch sports.....and everything else for that matter. I initially poo-pooed them of course but as the price came down they seemed to get better.........LOL........

WVa is going to move up but get taken out by Ohio State. I think Davidson goes down to Louisville. Carolina makes it to the finals but loses to Ohio State.......at least that's what my brackets say. Have you filled one out? Go to Yahoo and play along!!!!

Your March madness isn't the same as my March madness. The Iditarod has been going on for a week now, and this year I got my gramma and my mom hooked.

It is possible to be a fan of both, Tami!

Spaw, I agree re West Virginia. I haven't had time to follow the sports pages closely enough this year to have an informed opinion beyond that, but I am going to be pleasantly surprised if the Tarheels advance to the Final Four, much less the Finals. They are very good but there are several teams that are just as good. Right now, after watching the ACC semi-finals and finals, I'd put my money on Florida State as the ACC team most likely to reach the Final Four, and possibly the championship game. They are agressive, fast, athletic, well-coached and hungry to prove themselves. They improved steadily throughout the season. Florida State exhibited real poise and confidence in the ACC tournament. They definitely earned the tournament title. I was able to watch the semifinals and final because the ACC website streamed them. Duke and Carolina played hard and played well, but Florida State played just enough better than both to win their first, well deserved ACC tournament championship.

I don't know how far they will go, but I think it likely NC State will also advance. They were one of the bubble teams but they undoubtedly proved they deserved an NCAA bid from their tournament play, which surprised no one in the ACC as we have watched them develop over the course of the year.

Also succumb to March Madness.

Some teams were slow to develop- NC State, Vanderbilt and Louisville come to mind.
From my former home state, both Nes Mexico and New Mexico State were selected, but neither has the horses to go more than a round or two.
Texas, one of my university schools, won't last long.

Could be a surprise winner this year.

Sorry Janie, the Seminoles will never get by the Spartans in the Sweet Sixteen. I think the Buckeyes have a decent shot of playing through to the Final Four though North Carolina is a good team led by potential lottery pick, Zeller. (He'd sure look good in a Cavs uniform next year.) Still, I think they can be had, especially if Buford gets hot from outside. It usually comes down to what kind of game the refs call. If they whistle every little hand check and bump in the key, it usually goes against the teams from the rough-and-tumble Big Ten. If they let them play, the Big Ten teams can usually overpower teams from the ACC.

Well, well, well....

My beloved home state WV Mountaineers got skunked. Davidson and UNC Ashville have nothing to be ashamed about but are out. NC State is still in the hunt, and while I don't think they are final four ready, are playing really well and could make it to the elite 8. Good on them. Florida State and UNC easily advance although UNC was not brilliant. Don't know how long they will keep Henson out. McAdoo has the ability to step up in big games if he can gain confidence and if the other 4 starters are flexible enough to convey their confidence in him to him. Guess time will tell. The Duke game is still a squeaker.

Lonesome EJ - got your bright red Cardinal's jumpsuit on?

Big WAHHHHH. No tv or cable. No place to stream the games from.

So far my bracket has only been 75% correct with 24 right out of 32. Gonzaga kicked my ass as did Lehigh and Colorado. I was also wrong about Missouri who are out and Michigan who were beaten by Ohio Univerity of all schools........................unreal.

My Final Four are all still in ....

OK, I am supposed to hate everybody in the ACC but UNC, but I ain't built that way. Great to see NC State advance. They have really been coming along all season. Was already a bit nervous about the prospects of a 3rd match-up between them and my Tarheels in the regional finals, and now, Oy Vey! even as Henson returns, Reggie Marshall comes away from today's win with a fractured wrist bone. That may mean very serious trouble for UNC.

Spaw, I see OU and Ohio State are both still dancing. Old LEJ has apparently gotten too old and decrepit, or turned into too much of a folkie to care about Louisville anymore - concentrating on one's music and songwriting may have that effect on some people.

Trying to feel like rooting for Florida State also. In spite of thinking Gainesville is a very cool town and having a number of friends there, gonna have to stretch myself to do that.

Sorry VCU is out, Bobert. It is probably your fault, being distracted by home life and surgery interrupted the mojo for the team, without a doubt:>)

It really irks me that the only way to stream the tournament games is if you already subscribe to selected cable services - you have to pay extra to stream, but can't pay to stream unless you are already a cable subcriber with selected cable providers. I'd be happy to pay to stream the games but don't have cable or a tv hooked up at home.

Even more astounding, I live in a bit of a radio deadzone and can not get the UNC games even on the radio!

I may have to go rent a hotel room for the final four and championship games to watch them.

Not only are Ohio State and Ohio U still going, but crosstown blood rivals Xavier and Cinci have won through as well. This is the first time in the history of the tournament that 4 teams from one state have made it to the sweet 16. Too bad the Buckeyes and Bearcats have to meet in the next round.

Sorry Spaw (not!) Go 'Heels!

What a squeaker, at least from what I read in the immediate post game articles.

I am so pissed that it is not possible for me to watch the tournament games live on-line simply because I do not have cable TV at home. I would be fine with paying to stream the games. I am not fine with not having the option to do so.

To add insult to injury, I apparently live in a bit of a dead zone and also can not pick up a radio station that is broadcasting the Tarheel games. I can pick up the NC State radio station to listen to their games.

I am supposed to say "Go State!" now that Carolina squeeked by.

Will have to take some deep breaths and see if I really have that in me. State is playing so well, and played the Tarheels so well that I am very afeared of a match-up, even if Marshall were able to play.

The overtime toook Ohio University out of it but after playing to a tie, they have nothing to be ashamed of! All through that game I thought they had a chance and they proved their ability by playing to a tie.....on the plus side, my Final Four teams are all still playing!

I took a flyer on Wisconsin against Syracuse and lost. Ohio State is going to have trouble with Syracuse. Matter of fact, the Elite 8 have great potential to put me out of it! .......yeah........Baylor is very strong and seem very motivated....NC against Kansas might go very wrong as NC is without their all star point guard.   I could be without a Final Four................Louisville is the only one I feel pretty sure of winning.........

Well, well, well, Spaw. Your bracket is still alive and pretty well!

Ohio State and Louisville advance.

I'm not gonna hold my breath for the Tarheels tomorrow, but I'm prepared to throw in the towell yet either. She who never goes anywhere other than back and forth from work to home is checking out sports bars on-line to watch Carolina play tomorrow. Probably not the Kentucky-Baylor game, just because of the time. Go Kentucky!

I-O !!!!

Yep, a good game that had me worried more than once but Thad Motta is a great coach that OSU is lucky to have. North Carolina is going to have it tough against Kansas especially if MArshall doesn't play. I guess he did some light practice but is still "iffy" for the game.

Janie, your guys have got to come through for me to have all in place for the Final Four......after this, if they win, they are more than welcome to lose to Ohio State.....LOL....

Kansas like ta' kilt 'em Janie.....not a pretty game. But even worse was the thrashin' BAylor got from Kentucky. I've seen Ky. three times this year and each time was better than the last. Today they look like they are indestructable! I haven't seen anyone else in the tournament who could take them playing as they did today!

Kentucky beat Louisville before regular conference play ...now Louisville is stoked to stick it to 'em in tournament play as the ultimate payback. Should be a particularly physical game - more like football without the padding - if the refs let 'em play like the rivals they are.

WAAAGGHHH!

Oh Well. There is always next year. Or the year after. One thing is for certain - We'll be baaack!!!!

I thought, as Roy Williams said, Carolina played really good ball for 30-35 minutes, and they adapted much better than I had hoped without Marshall. Still, Kansas outplayed the Tarheels, fair and square, especially in the last 5-6 minutes of the game, when it really counted. At least that is what it sounded like on the radio (finally was able to tune in a station!) Got called into work in the afternoon so wasn't able to take the time to head to a sports bar to watch afterwards. The final score doesn't reflect how competitive the game was, but it is true that NC was chasing Kansas for most of the game.

OK. Now, Go Louisville! Go OSU!

If I can brag on the North Carolina lady atheletes, Shaw University won the Division II Women's NCAA tournament, and the Duke Women's team is headed for the regional finals against Stanford tomorrow.

Don't know if any of you follow women's college basketball. I've never been a men's basketball game at Duke or UNC (can't get tickets, and if I could, couldn't afford them.) Have occasionally gone to see the women play, and it is every bit as exciting and competitive to watch these superb atheletes play as it is to watch the men.

You're right Spaw, I think OSU can get by Kansas but Kentucky scares hell out of me. I've thought they were the best in the country all year and they seem to be peaking at the right time. Let's hope Louisville can soften them up. Not that I'm taking the Jayhawks lightly, They're a fine team and they have beaten the Buckeyes this year, but we were without our best player at the time, Sullinger, who is back and also seems to be playing some of his best ball right now. At least when he's not sitting on the bench with imaginary fouls.
Sorry Janie, the Tarheels had a good run but I'm not entirely convinced they'd have beaten Kansas even with Marshall. I've been underwhelmed by the ACC all year, the third strongest conference at best. But both the conference and the school have been top of the heap enough in the past and will be again so "wait til next year" isn't such a wistful sentiment in ACC Land.

Neil,

I'm not convinced either, but at this level of play, I also don't think the winners are ever forgone conclusions. Hey, even early in the brackets it is clear there is no such thing as forgone conclusions.

Kentucky is quite awesome.

We shall see.

I agree with both of you.

I think, simply based on rivalry and coaches that Louisville may have chance but the Wildcats are living up to their name. IF both OSU and Kansas play as they did in their last games, the edge goes to Ohio State but early in the year the Bucks had a real problem with losing momentum in a game and not regaining it. That is unusual for a Thad Motta coached team and lately it has been better. OSU in a close one if they both play "up to level."

See ya' in Nawleens......

As a Louisville alum, I'm going for the Cards, but beating Kentucky will be a huge problem for anyone. I haven't seen such passing, defense, or dominance in the paint by any team in a very long time that could compare to the Wildcats. I think Louisville has to hit the outside shots and will absolutely need accurate three point shooting to have a chance. Short of a well-placed blow to the knee, I have no idea how you could stop Davis.
Too bad about the heels Janie, I was rooting for em (since I already have the hat).

Sorry Leej but we both could see how great UK is this year. Good game though, but UK was simply too strong.

Kansas beat OSU of course. As I said before, they have had a real problem with losing momentum and not regainig it. That is so unusual for a Thad Motta coached team. When he was at Xavier I watched a lot of him then and every team was up for their games. He's done the same at Ohio State up until this bunch.......and I don't see why. A lot are from last year and they have a couple of players like Aaron Craft who are just "up" damn near all the time.

Tonight they got cold after having a 13 point lead and they stayed that way. As soon as they started losing that huge lead you could see it coming. Thad Motta was just this second on the tube and said, "We lost the momentum and just couldn't get it back." There ya' go.

I like Motta and Ohio State was lucky to get him. On to next year.........

GO 'CATS....KICK THEIR ASS....BAD!!!!

'Bout time you showed up, LEJ *grin*

Two really good, competitive games out of 4 fine teams, and the two best teams seem to have won.

I don't have a dog in the fight for the championship, but if I was a gambling person, my money would be on Kentucky.
