"Trump slams Salmond over wind farms
Published on Friday 10 February 2012 12:02

US tycoon Donald Trump has written to First Minister Alex Salmond, accusing him of seeming "hell-bent on destroying Scotland's coastline" with wind turbines.

Mr Trump, who opposes plans for an offshore wind farm to be built near the site of his luxury golf resort in Aberdeenshire, called the turbines "ugly monstrosities" and "horrendous machines".

A planning application for an 11-turbine wind farm off Aberdeen Bay was submitted to Marine Scotland last summer. A decision is expected to be made later this year.

The businessman has halted work on his resort until the decision is made by the Scottish Government.

He has written to the First Minister, saying: "With the reckless installation of these monsters, you will single-handedly have done more damage to Scotland than virtually any event in Scottish history."

Mr Trump also said he would never be "on board" with the project, which he called "insanity".

In the letter, he wrote: "As a matter of fact, I have just authorised my staff to allocate a substantial amount of money to launch an international campaign to fight your plan to surround Scotland's coast with many thousands of wind turbines."

He added: "Please understand that I am doing this to save Scotland."

What the heck have wind farms got to do with the beauty of Scotland?

Anybody (including DT) is entitled to hold, and loudly to promote, his or her point of view.

The fact that his opinion is self-promoting and entirely tied up with his plan for the desecration by golf course of a fine bit of country (he would, of course, say real estate) is beside the point.

'Ugly monstrosities ' eh? Hard to argue with DT on that subject.

As far as I can see, Mr Trump, having failed to buy the NFL, decided to buy Scotland instead, and having somehow obtained planning permission for acompletely unnecessary and unwanted perfect golf course (God's already done it at St Andrews) imagined that he'd actually obtained the whole country, and is now sulking because he can't have his own way.

If he leaves Scotland, perhaps he can go to Afghanistan or Iran or somewhere. I'd rather he not return to the Americas, anyway. Maybe Berzerkistan....

This is what the 'Independent' said:

"Donald Trump, the scourge of conservationists for his plans to build a golf course on Scotland's north-east coast, claimed yesterday that it was wind turbines and not his resort that would ruin the environment – and threatened to abandon his project if they were not scrapped.

"Your pristine countryside and coastlines will forever be destroyed and Scotland will go broke," the US billionaire said in a written submission to the Scottish Parliament's Economy, Energy and Tourism Committee. He added that building "these industrial monstrosities" would "completely end" tourism in Scotland and would lead to "financial suicide".

Mr Trump has already halted work on his controversial luxury development on a Site of Special Scientific Interest in Aberdeenshire because of the prospect of an offshore wind farm being built nearby. "If I had known about the current wind turbine proposals, I would never have built in Scotland," he said.

But the Green MSP Patrick Harvie said Mr Trump's "latest rant shows how weak his grasp on reality is", adding that the tycoon would create a "circus atmosphere" when he is due to give evidence to the committee next week."

(it's still there, but they seem to have shuffled it around a bit).

His hair is make especially for him. It's applied by a spraying technique which is the most magnificent in the world, strictly first-class, just like his yachts and his houses and his casinos. The hair is slightly bleached, a combination of certain rare, but top-of-the-line, chemicals and the finest sheep shit which can be had, only from a rare line of wild sheep found only in the mountains of a remote, but first-class, area of Siberia.
