Subject: BS: Sometimes Life's Funny From: Dharmabum Date: 23 Dec 11 - 05:11 PM Sometimes life's funny. Sometimes it's a barrel of laughs, sometimes it's just ironic. I guess I had the latter happen to me the other day. My daughter suffers from an undiagnosed medical condition that the doc's are treating with a few different medications. One of which is for treating anxiety, therefore requiring an authorized practitioner in the mental health field to write the prescription. While she & I were sitting in the waiting area of a mental health facility,a man carrying a sleeping bag, sat down next to us & struck up a conversation. He told us his name was Bruce & that he'd been homeless for the past year & was presently residing under a bridge just a few blocks away. He had no family that he could turn to for help. And constantly worried about someone stealing his possessions while he slept. I told Bruce the story of what we'd been dealing with for the past two years; About the emotional roller coaster ride of a misdiagnoses of brain cancer, Of dealing with my daughters memory loss, Of watching her have grand mol seizures. The conversation fell silent for a few minutes, then Bruce stood up & looked at my daughter & I, "Ya Know" he said "No matter how bad ya think ya got it,there's always somebody that's worse off". He went on to tell me how greateful he was to have his health, his sobriety & how he'd recently been accepted for housing assistance. Before he was called in to meet with his case worker,he told my daughter how pretty he thought she was,I joked how we were glad she inherited her looks from her mother instead of me. As Bruce walked away,I couldn't help but think how lucky we were to have a roof over our heads, A warm bed & how my daughter has family to love & take care of her. So,I guess it took three people with some pretty shitty circumstances to make us all realise how lucky we really are. True story. DB. |

Subject: RE: BS: Sometimes Life's Funny From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 23 Dec 11 - 06:52 PM I read a proverb/adage years ago that has stayed with me - I was complaining about my sore feet, when I met the man with no legs. Decades back I knew a quadraplegic woman who had some use in her right hand. Over a year she finished her jumper, letting go of her needle at every stitch to wrap the wool around it. sandra (chronic back & leg pain but still walking!) |

Subject: RE: BS: Sometimes Life's Funny From: GUEST,Wesley S Date: 23 Dec 11 - 08:48 PM Yup - It's all in the attitude. The student went to the Zen master and was asked "What color is the sky?". The student looked out the window and saw that it was raining so he replied "The sky is gray." The teacher told him "No the sky is blue. It's always been blue. But you have chosen to see the gray clouds". |

Subject: RE: BS: Sometimes Life's Funny From: MGM·Lion Date: 24 Dec 11 - 12:16 AM Yes, well ··· It is, of course, true that there is always someone worse off than yourself. However, the only proverb I have ever invented myself {I think it is original to me} was Nobody ever cured a sore throat by thinking of a giraffe. Just mention it. Not trying to rain on anyone's parade. ~Michael~ |

Subject: RE: BS: Sometimes Life's Funny From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 24 Dec 11 - 12:11 PM Our niece has a daughter who has profound autism. Once she met a man whose daughter was struggling with leukemia. He knew nothing of our niece, but as he told his story, he said, "It could be worse- she could be autistic." I don't think there's anything wrong with counting your blessings! |
