Subject: Lyr Req: Eddie Taylor's 'Ride 'Em On Down' From: romateo Date: 12 Dec 11 - 08:37 AM Hi. I would appreciate any help on getting lyrics of this song from Bad Boy (Vee Jay)CD. English is my second language, so I only understand just a few of Eddie's words. Thanks in advance. |
Subject: Lyr Add: RIDE 'EM ON DOWN (Eddie Taylor) From: Jim Dixon Date: 13 Dec 11 - 12:19 PM Here's my attempt at a transcription. A couple of words are missing; several more are doubtful. Corrections are welcome. This song is confusing to me too. It uses a lot of slang I'm not familiar with. I think "dealing" here means playing cards and gambling; not selling drugs (its more usual meaning nowadays). I base this opinion on another version of this song on the album "Chicago Blues Festival '70" where gambling is explicitly mentioned. I don't know what "ride 'em on down" means. RIDE 'EM ON DOWN As sung by Eddie Taylor on "A Taste of the Blues, Vol. 2" (2007) I'm a steel man, still dealing, yes, sir. Keep on dealing down till I can find me a bed. Now I know I done stopped dealing; babe, I believe I'll ride 'em on down. Well I done stopped dealing; I believe I'll ride 'em on down. Raised in the country, darling. Birthed in town. Twenty-two kids on there look like mine. I believe I'll have to stop dealing. Believe I'll ride 'em on down Well, I done stopped dealing. I believe I'll ride 'em on down. I'm dealing darling, by ... deck. Seem like you want to even take me west. I'm gonna stop dealing darling until I can ride 'em on down. Well, I done stopped dealing; I believe I'll ride 'em on down. Born in this city not a day before. You come today knocking at my door. Have to stop dealing darling; believe I'll ride 'em on down. You know I done stopped dealing; I believe I'll ride 'em on down. Go ahead; ride 'em on down. Won't have to worry no more. |
Subject: Lyr Add: RIDE 'EM ON DOWN 2 (Eddie Taylor) From: Jim Dixon Date: 13 Dec 11 - 02:06 PM The other version: RIDE 'EM ON DOWN As sung by Eddie Taylor on "Chicago Blues Festival '70" (2008) I'm a gambling man, baby, [you] know, still gambling yet. I'm gonna keep on gambling till I can find myself a bet. I feel I'll have to stop dealing; I believe I'll ride 'em on down. Now you know I done stopped dealing; I believe I'll ride 'em on down. Born on a country holiday, birthed in town. Four [or] five kids on there look like mine. I'm gonna have to stop dealing; I believe I'll ride 'em on down. I know I've done stopped dealing. I believe I'll ride 'em on down. Since I been dealin', baby, know, I can't find a bet. I'm gonna keep on betting till I know where I'm at. I'm gonna have to stop dealing; I believe I'll ride 'em on down. Yeah, know, I've done stopped dealing; I believe I'll ride 'em on down. Born on a country holiday, birthed in town. Four or five kids on there look like mine. I'm gonna have to stop dealing; I believe I'll ride 'em on down. Yeah, know I done stopped dealing; I believe I'll ride 'em on down. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Ride 'Em On Down (Eddie Taylor) From: GUEST,Mick (France) Date: 10 Mar 17 - 04:23 AM Here is, as far as I can make out, the lyrics to the Rolling Stones' version, from their 2016 "Blue & Lonesome" release: Yeah! I'm a dealin' man, still dealin' yet. I'm gonna keep on dealin' till I find myself a bet. And I got to stop dealin', I believe I'll ride 'em on down. Well, I've done stopped dealin', I believe I'll ride 'em on down. Yeah! Raised in the country, got a place in town, Got two kids and they all look like mine. And I got to stop dealin', I believe I'll ride 'em on down. Yeah, I've got to stop dealin', I believe I'll ride 'em on down. Yeah! I'm dealin', darlin', bottom o' the deck. Seem like somebody gonna take my shit. Well, I got to stop dealin', I believe I'll ride 'em on down. Oh, I've done stopped dealin', I believe I'll ride 'em on down. Yeah! Yeah ! Born yesterday and not a day before, And here you come a-knockin' at my door. And I've done stopped dealin', I believe I'll ride 'em on down. Oh, I done stopped dealin', I believe I'll ride 'em on down. Yeah! Yeah, I've done stopped dealin', I believe I'll ride 'em on down. Two live versions on Youtube (live Desert Trip, Indio, California, October 7, 2016 & Las Vegas, October 22, 2016) make the first line of the third verse more explicit: "Keep dealin', darlin', from the bottom of the deck" (a gambler dealing cards from the bottom of the deck of cards, of course) |
