Subject: Tech: Google toolbar problem From: Murray MacLeod Date: 08 Dec 11 - 04:49 PM I recently had to do a total reformat of my hard drives and reinstallation of Windows XP, and since then of course have had to reinstall everything that I had before. One of the features I found useful previously was the Google toolbar facility whereby when you highlighted a section of text it appeared automatically in the window in the toolbar, and you could then click "search " and it would do a search, and it would do the search in a new window. This still happens, but the annoying thing is that whereas previously, it would open the search in a new window, now, the search takes pkace in the current window. If this happens when, for example, I am using Paypal and wish to check a buyer's postcode, it wipes out the paypal page and I have to go through the whole login rigmarole again. I cannot see how to get google to open in a new window. When I click on the tools icon, there is a box which appears to offer this option, but it is in very faint print, and appears to be non- functional. Can anybody suggest a solution ? As always, TIA ... |

Subject: RE: Tech: Google toolbar problem From: JohnInKansas Date: 08 Dec 11 - 05:12 PM My solution for similar "helpful features" has been to open a new tab (to the same site, when appropriate) before doing the search. Obviously there's probably a better method, but I haven't run into the problem. Google Says "we fixed that in a new update that's available at our home page," but I haven't looked at whether they've also added other "features" I might not want, so I haven't tried it out. John |

Subject: RE: Tech: Google toolbar problem From: Murray MacLeod Date: 08 Dec 11 - 06:22 PM Thanks John, I see from that link that I am not the only one with the problem. What I cannot understand is that last week there was no problem, any highlighted text appeared automatically in the toolbar window, when I clicked "search" it opened the search in a new window, everything was hunky-dory, slick and easy. Now, after the reinstall, it has become a bloody long-winded process ... |
