Subject: Sheet Music lost In Fire From: SINSULL Date: 04 Dec 11 - 01:24 PM A local family came home from an afternoon movie to find their house destroyed by an accidental fire. They lost their pets and all their belongiongs including two pianos and a lifetime collection of sheet music. If any of you have duplicates or sheet music you no longer want, contact me via PM. I plan to collect as much as possible and give it to the Culkins. They can keep what they like and the rest can go to a library or school. It will come from their friends at Mudcat. Before anyone asks, I thought I would try to find out any special pieces or types they might need, but given that they have nothing but the clothes on their backs I feel it is inappropriate to intrude. Subject: RE: Sheet Music lost In Fire From: GUEST,SteveG Date: 04 Dec 11 - 04:01 PM Mary It might help to know where you're based. People who live at least in the same country might be more willing to contribute with smaller costs of shipping. |

Subject: RE: Sheet Music lost In Fire From: John MacKenzie Date: 04 Dec 11 - 05:09 PM I got a box of sheet music from our local Freecycle pages. I should imagine there's a fair bit doing the rounds. |
Subject: RE: Sheet Music lost In Fire From: katlaughing Date: 04 Dec 11 - 05:29 PM I'll keep an eye out for some, Marigold. Puir things...I am glad they are safe, but oh, to lose so much, including the pets. So sad. |
Subject: RE: Sheet Music lost In Fire From: GUEST,.gargoyle Date: 04 Dec 11 - 05:33 PM Perhaps, there was insurance for their home so they're better off without you "helping" until the complete itimization of loss is fully materialized.
Sincerely, |
Subject: RE: Sheet Music lost In Fire From: SINSULL Date: 04 Dec 11 - 06:00 PM Always the positive one, Gargoyle. Yes - they have insurance and are living in a local Hyatt with hopes of moving into a rental home this week. GOOGLE Culkins South Portland and you will find the story. Neighbors have come through with cash, gift cards, clothing, furniture, etc. She is a music teacher; Dad is a teacher; the boys are appearing in a local presentation of The Gift Of The Magi. Not poor people but but not rich. Known for their generosity throughout the community. A local group is working on finding a piano. I am hoping to replace some of the sheet music in Mudcat's name. John - if you have some to share, thank you. You too, Kat. I am parting with some of my Gay 90s treasures. I can't read music anyway. SINS, who loves Gargoyle's practical nature. |
Subject: RE: Sheet Music lost In Fire From: jacqui.c Date: 05 Dec 11 - 07:29 AM If any UK 'Catters have any spare sheet music I shall be in the UK (flying out today) until December 28 and would be quite happy to get this to Mary. Just PM me and I'll give an address to send to. I'm hoping to be at Sharps tomorrow evening, if I've recovered from the flight by then and will also be trying to get to some other sessions while I'm over. |
Subject: RE: Sheet Music lost In Fire From: SINSULL Date: 05 Dec 11 - 09:40 AM Thanks, Jacqui. Again. |
Subject: RE: Sheet Music lost In Fire From: open mike Date: 05 Dec 11 - 01:23 PM perhaps some can be scanned and sent so that someone near by (sinsull?) can print out and deliver?? I wish themn the best... winter is a hard time to have such a thing happen, well, any time is... is it possible that someone might have a spare copy of Rise Up Singing? this contains 1200 or so songs... |
Subject: RE: Sheet Music lost In Fire From: SINSULL Date: 05 Dec 11 - 02:04 PM Good point. I some old copies. thanks. |
Subject: RE: Sheet Music lost In Fire From: maeve Date: 05 Dec 11 - 02:22 PM This brings back memories. I'm on the lookout for suitable, good quality music for the piano teacher, Sins, and will talk with you if I find anything. We might want to be wary about scanning copyrighted material. |
Subject: RE: Sheet Music lost In Fire From: katlaughing Date: 05 Dec 11 - 03:58 PM Don't forget some things, pre-1922, I think, can be printed from the Lester Levy Sheet Music site. If we knew specific titles, when they have time, at least they or some of us or whomever could print them out. Not the same feel as old sheet music, but at least it's got the *dots*.:-) |
Subject: RE: Sheet Music lost In Fire From: SINSULL Date: 05 Dec 11 - 06:52 PM Thanks for all the PMs and offers. I don't expect to make a delivery before mid-January so there is lots of time to rummage. Maeve is right about copyrights. Don't want to end up in court or out a few thousand. This lady has been collecting sheet music since childhood. I am not sure scans will do it. Thanks again M |
