Subject: BS: US Cooperation with Iran? From: Newport Boy Date: 02 Dec 11 - 03:23 PM I use the NASA Astronomy Picture of the Day as my homepage. http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html Today I noticed that I could view APOD in Farsi instead of English - courtesy of Nojum in Iran. A new spirit of cooperation? Phil |

Subject: RE: BS: US Cooperation with Iran? From: michaelr Date: 02 Dec 11 - 09:23 PM It's long been the case that scientists have maintained their international relationships much better than politicians. |

Subject: RE: BS: US Cooperation with Iran? From: Newport Boy Date: 03 Dec 11 - 04:01 AM Yes - I wouldn't have been surprised at the Iranian service. What made me comment was a US Government agency advertising it on it's website. I see the link is not on today's page, but it's still there on yesterday's. Phil |

Subject: RE: BS: US Cooperation with Iran? From: Rapparee Date: 03 Dec 11 - 10:08 AM Why not? Scientists are far more cooperative than politicians. But remember, good ol' Ronnie Raygun sent weapons parts to Iran after lambasting the Carter administration for not taking a harder line. |

Subject: RE: BS: US Cooperation with Iran? From: RichM Date: 03 Dec 11 - 03:44 PM The USA should stop chastising other nations for developing atomic weapons, until they themselves give up or drastically reduce, their own quantities of such weapons. Remember, the USA is the ONLY nation that has used atomic weapons on civilian targets. |

Subject: RE: BS: US Cooperation with Iran? From: Stringsinger Date: 04 Dec 11 - 01:43 PM It is hypocritical to chastise Iran for wanting to have nuclear weapons when the US and Israel have more than most of the world. At the same time, the best policy should be for the US , Israel and other countries to set an example by reducing or outlawing nuclear weapons, not just weapons but nuclear energy as well endangering the health of people. The Department of Homeland Security (sounds fascist to me) is ginning up with Israel for an attack on Iran, causing a potential world war. The only solution I see is a foreign policy that is based on negotiations, not arbitrary sanctions leading to further military escalations. The problem of cooperation concerns the Transnational corporations that have no allegiance to any country, the flip side of scientific cooperation. |

From: GUEST,Teribus Date: 05 Dec 11 - 12:47 AM 1: "It is hypocritical to chastise Iran for wanting to have nuclear weapons when the US and Israel have more than most of the world." That sentence is wrong, both the US and Israel acquired their nuclear weapons legally, Iran is acquiring hers ilegally as Iran is a signatory of the nuclear NPT. As far as numbers go Russia is still way ahead by a factor of almost 50% when it comes to the numbers of weapons, China also has double the number of "nukes" that Israel is reported to have. 2: The US has reduced its nuclear arsenal by about 65% since SALT 1 & 2. |
