Subject: RE: BS: Battle in Seattle Chief on OWS From: GUEST,999 Date: 21 Nov 11 - 10:09 AM He's not speaking so much about OWS as he is making a scathing indictment of police actions, bureaucracy and leadership. Unfortunately, he's right. |
Subject: RE: BS: Battle in Seattle Chief on OWS From: Jack the Sailor Date: 21 Nov 11 - 10:16 AM He is taking the recent police actions against as a cue and as concrete examples to reintroduce the subject. That's the way I read it anyway. |
Subject: RE: BS: Battle in Seattle Chief on OWS From: Bill D Date: 21 Nov 11 - 10:18 AM Interesting... a (former) police official who has seen beyond the simplistic slogans and militaristic mindset that states..."We cannot allow anyone to disrupt OUR idea of law & order, no matter what the situation or who is involved. Therefore, any means short of deadly force is justified to break up 'inconvenient' gatherings." Face it...some of the police in various places are just pissed off at having to work overtime and cope with ideas THEY do not comprehend. There will be overreaching reactions. I would not like the job of trying to hire police with the guts to DO the job, but enough reserve & common sense to exercise reasonable restraint when necessary. |
Subject: RE: BS: Battle in Seattle Chief on OWS From: JohnInKansas Date: 21 Nov 11 - 10:26 AM The article fails to mention that "militarized" police departments are most common where Chiefs of Police are elected and while they do appear where Chief of Police is non-political they're much less common when the departments as a whole are not subject to "electoral And people here have been agitating to have JUDGES all elected instead of appointed (by the Governor) after Bar Association evaluation and recommendation. (With our present Governor that might not be a bad idea, but hopefully he's temporary.) John |
