Subject: Nostalgia - favourite song. From: Tunesmith Date: 18 Nov 11 - 10:33 AM Have tou a favourite "nostalgia" song? One that captures the feeling for someone or something from the past. Doesn't have to your past - or even something that you have experienced, but just a song a creates a nice feeling of nostalgia. |
Subject: RE: Nostalgia - favourite song. From: Tattie Bogle Date: 18 Nov 11 - 12:11 PM That's a hard one, Tunesmith, as so many spring to mind! I'd probably give you a different answer next week too. But this being very close to my parents' wedding anniversary, and having now lost them both, it would have to be something to do with them. I think back to their golden wedding anniversary party which took place in a church hall in Aberdeenshire in 1993, so 2 candidates from that: "The Quine that dis the strip at Inverurie" - sung by a lady from the church choir! Or: "The Northern Lights of Old Aberdeen" - I have a video of my Dad desperately trying to sing along with it while obviously NOT knowing the words, so doing a sort of goldfish impression! |

Subject: RE: Nostalgia - favourite song. From: Joe Offer Date: 18 Nov 11 - 05:43 PM My favorite nostalgic song is Long, Long Ago. I learned it in fifth grade, and there's something about it that never lets me grow tired of it. I'm also partial to Old Black Joe, although I recognize that the lyrics make some people uneasy. Joe Hill is another one that speaks to me, as are Going Home (Dvorak) and The Holy City (Jerusalem). Actually, anything I can picture Paul Robeson singing, makes me nostalgic. I don't think Robeson recorded all of these, but I can certainly imagine him singing all of them. For me, Robeson has always been a symbol of what's right with the world, and how the whole world should be. -Joe- |
