Whew -- did I have a great night of music!

First, I attended a house concert at my fiddler's home with famed Cork balladeer Jimmy Crowley and San Francisco mandolin ace Marla Fibish. It was double-string heaven as they played tunes and songs on mandolins, mandola, octave mandolin (with octave strings) and mandocello.

Then, I caught the last part of local big band Laughing Gravy's annual tribute concert to Gram Parsons (now there's someone I think deserves to be called genius). Guitars, pedal steel, fiddle, accordion and great singing made for an excellent show of Cosmic American Music.

All in all, an awesome evening. It will be a while before I get to sleep.

Cheers,
Michael

Glad you had such a fine night of music tonight (last night), Michael.

We in Portland did too, with John McCutcheon serenading us, with multi-instruments accompanying, at the Alberta Rose Theatre. And I even caught a piece of broken hammered dulcimer string which he tossed my way from the stage (and which I later asked him to autograph).    It was an extraordinary evening of music, stories, laughter, and comradarie (including "Christmas In the Trenches" near the end of the concert, especially for Veterans' Day).

Genie - How does one write on a string?

McCutcheon is a great performer and one of the most inveterate touring artists around. I admire his stamina. I'm happy to know you too had a great night of music.
