Subject: New Jerusalem reminiscent of Joys Seven From: Haruo Date: 10 Nov 11 - 01:12 AM In the 1985 Seventh Day Adventist Hymnal there's a tune called NEW JERUSALEM, attributed to an Abraham Merrell, set to a text by Isaac Watts that begins "Lo, what a glorious sight appears to our believing eyes". I have recently set the Esperanto Christmas hymn "Ĉe l' Kristofesto ĝojas ni" to it. This tune reminds me strongly of the English carol "Joys Seven" ("The first good joy that Mary had, it was the joy of one"), and I think the similarities are too great to be random happenstance. I apologize for the poor quality of the scanned music, but you can see it here on my hymnblog. Any additional information about this tune would be very welcome. Haruo |
