Ok, I own up - I did! I asked Andrew to marry me but he turned me down 'cos he was already married. Did anyone else pop the question?

A girl asked my mate to marry her one year and he turned her down, they both lived happily ever after.

I didn't turn her down! I said yes!

Andrew

(Provided the party is as good as the last time I married her.)

Sadie Hawkins Day is supposed to be in November, but I remember my sister and her mates playing at it in college around 29 Feb. Can't remember if it was a skit or what, but I begged the outfit from her to play dress-up in, after.

First Sadie Hawkins Day Lil'Abner cartoon.

From a story in my local paper:

One of the legends, offered online by the Honor Society of Leap Year Day Babies (leapyearday.com), is that in Scotland around 1288, a law was passed to make it legal for a woman to propose marriage – in a leap year only. A man could be fined for saying no.

Sadie Hawkins Day is November 15.

well I had no offer to honour.

To rephrase the old saw about Lizbet's wedding night, did you have any honour to offer?

And, with regard to Becca's post, when I was a young lad it was traditional for young ladies to propose marriage on 29th February (if they had appropriate 'targets in sight') and that a lad who refused such a proposal was obliged to give the young lady a pair of white gloves.

Cheers, Rowan

We were married in Leap Year but I didn't do the proposing.

However I said yes.

My girlfriend and I have both asked and accepted this year, but the official proposal will not come until I have the ring in hand. We are going to see it for the first time tomorrow, but it will have a little bit of work yet to be done before I can put it on her finger.

The wedding is planned for October '09.

I made a proposal but the person to whom it was addressed refused - I suspect on the grounds that he couldn't a) keep his trap shut long enough to do it, and b) it was probably going to frighten the horses or c) get me sacked.

I hit the same problem as Carole ... he would have agreed, except that we've already tied the knot. We are, however, thinking in terms of a big party next July to celebrate five years of marital bliss - don't know if we can afford the same venue as the wedding, though!
