Subject: RE: Australia Day From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 26 Jan 08 - 08:49 AM thanks for that, Tom I had a good day with friends at our first meeting for the year. Then we ran into the hordes celebrating Australia day coming home. There were people everywhere & the 10 minute drive under Sydney's CBD to my place became a humungous traffic jam as my friend missed the underpass lane & had to negotiate around closed streets in the CBD! Australia day website listing what you missed by not being here! |

Subject: RE: Australia Day From: JennieG Date: 26 Jan 08 - 05:31 PM Thank youse all, folks! I had a quiet day, didn't go to the various hooleys. My choir sang at a citizenship ceremony in the morning, one of our members and her husband became Aussies. As Mick says, oy oy oy........ Cheers JennieG ps. I have only once in my life joined in the Aussie Aussie Aussie oy oy oy chant, and that was when Himself and I were on the Sapphire Princess on our Inside Passage cruise 18 months ago - had to make our presence felt somehow! |

Subject: RE: Australia Day From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 28 Jan 08 - 05:29 AM Actually I have a friend who recently bought a lease on an opal mine for his young son - he's a geologist/gemologist/manufacturing jeweller and his son is a budding rockhound. Thought the mine would "be good fun for school holidays"... I'm not making this up you know... |

Subject: RE: Australia Day From: Donuel Date: 28 Jan 08 - 11:10 AM I know there are lots of folks who lease a plot for a year just for the pebbles. There is a guy in Florida who buys a ton of Koroit rocks at a time, cuts them in half and puts them on ebay. He is getting a new boat. |
