Subject: Irish Musical Holiday From: GUEST,strad Date: 20 Jan 08 - 03:09 PM I'm fancying a musical holiday in Ireland this year - anywhere but Dublin. Where's the best places for scenery and sessions, anyone? |

Subject: RE: Irish Musical Holiday From: MartinRyan Date: 20 Jan 08 - 03:16 PM West, anyway! Kerry, Clare, Galway and Donegal will, with a bit of planning and some luck, please most punters under both headings. That said - if the main interest is sessions rather than scenery - DUblin is the most efficient option. Regards |

Subject: RE: Irish Musical Holiday From: mandotim Date: 21 Jan 08 - 03:57 AM My recommendation would be the southern part of West Cork, down towards the Mizzen Head. Good music in Schull, Ballydehob, Baltimore (no, not that one!) and Crookhaven. Tim |

Subject: RE: Irish Musical Holiday From: Jim Carroll Date: 22 Jan 08 - 03:21 AM 'You could do a lot worse than the Willie Clancy Summer School,' You'll find great music here in Miltown Malbay during the Willie Week, but it gets extremely crowded and uncomfortable and you need to start booking your accommodation last month. Otherwise, excellent music throughout the year here three or four nights a week. It's a personal thing but Doolin is where you go to hear visitors play; local musicians tend not to get a look-in and the music tends to be messy in my experience (unless you go to play and not listen). Last time we were there, there was a bus-load of cowboy hats and 12-string guitars pulling up in the car-park as we left. Good music in Ennis I believe, but we don't have to travel that far with so much on our doorstep. Jim Carroll |

Subject: RE: Irish Musical Holiday From: The Sandman Date: 22 Jan 08 - 06:58 PM come to Ballydehob,we have a trad festival in April, and a jazz festival in May.A traditional session every friday night. seven pubs, but no brothels. |
|
Subject: RE: Irish Musical Holiday From: Jim Carroll Date: 23 Jan 08 - 02:58 AM "but no brothels" Two men in Liverpool ran a fish-and-chip-shop on Lime Street during WW2, but, what with the bombing and the blackout, trade dwindled to almost nothing. One suggested, "let's close the shop and open a brothel". His mate replied, "Don't be daft; if we can't sell fish and chips we'll never be able to sell soup". Jim Carroll |

Subject: RE: Irish Musical Holiday From: Sugwash Date: 23 Jan 08 - 09:34 AM I can recommend Fiddlers Retreat run by Theresa Bourke in Loughmore, Templemore, Co Tipperary. Great for fiddlers and non fiddlers both. Excellent food and a warm welcome, marvellous sessions (genuine rather than staged for tourists) and wonderful countryside. Fiddler's Retreat |
