My Rog has been checking out the live music on Second Life, lately. Tonight he found a really good Irish music player, flute, fiddle etc. by the name of Slip Stringfellow at "Nancy Blake's Pub." Well worth checking out, imo.

Let's use this thread to post about other artists we may find in there, Mudcatters included, of course, and in what venues.

Ah, found out his real name is Mike Simpson and he lives in Atlanta. Here's his website, slipjig.org. Sounds like an interesting fellow. I think I'll invite him to Mudcat, unless, of course, he's already here, incognito.:-) We are really enjoying his performance right now in 2nd Life.

Oops, sorry, Adrien, it looks as though he doesn't have any tracks available on his website. It does look as though he appears in Second Life every Thursday night, so maybe you could catch him there. I gave him more of a listen in there, after I started this thread, and have to say I prefer his whistle playing to his fiddle. He sounds good, technically on the fiddle, but there was one piece I felt he took way too fast, robbing it of a special *lilt* I could *hear* in my mind...it sounded as though he needed a bodhran player to keep him at a slower, steady pace. Maybe he was just showing off a bit for the audience. That, and the great players of Mudcat have spoilt me, I reckon.:-) I'd still give him a listen, though.

Thanks Kat.

My sister's band, Keltish, plays quite regularly in there. Most often at the Blarney Stone in the Dublin sim, but they play at other venues as well. My sister also owns the Oceanside Bar in there, where they have live music fairly often.

Different strokes, squeezeboxhp. They draw a good audience at their gigs, but obviously they're not for everybody.

I'd love to listen in ~ not necessarily to fully equip myself for participation, at least not at first ~ but my effort to insinuate myself into SL a month or more ago ended in frutration and failure. Now I'm reluctant to waste any more time than I already have...

I think they need the services of a decent tech writer who could provide user instructions that a potential user might actually be able to follow.

I clicked around at the website- gave up when I got write-ups but no music. Also the request for registration turned me off.

OK--I've been gone for a little while....all right, quite a long while from the Mudcat. So what's Second Life? (all reincarnation jokes aside.)

It's a 3D virtual online world, Jim, which you can access learn about HERE.

My Rog says, after you've signed on, you search for the events that you want and "teleport" there. Okay, it's not quite that easy. I just tried it with him standing here. I had to download their software, first, which I did about a month ago. Then I had to go to start>programs>secondlife and fire it up. My avatar's name came right up, I was taken to Orientation Island to learn the ropes before I'd be able to go to search SL for events. Apparently my monitor is too old or something because we couldn't get the whole screen to show up, so I couldn't choose the things I was supposed to and the text was blurry. I've been having problems with my monitor anyway and a new one was supposed to be delivered today but DHL "had issues" with a plane in Salt Lake City, so I won't get the new one until Monday. Rog doesn't have any problems getting into SL with his laptop. He says there is a bit of a learning curve, but from what I've seen and heard, once you get in there the music scenes are a lot of fun.

Jim, the main thing that impresses me about SL is it is full duplex. It's not like the old HearMe or Paltalk where we had to take turns and hold down the talk button, etc.

Welcome back, btw!
