Subject: Lyr Add: GRIZZLY BEAR From: Joybell Date: 10 Dec 07 - 03:58 PM Here's how True-Love sings it: Grizzly Bear I'm gonna tell you little story 'bout a grizzily bear Jack-o-Diamonds was nothing but a grizzily bear Refrain: He was a great big grizzily, grizzily bear He was a great big grizzily, grizzily bear Oh my mama was afraid of the grizzily bear And my daddy was afraid of the grizzily bear What's that comin it's a grizzily bear He's got big long teeth like a grizzily bear He's got big blue eyes like a grizzily bear He's got big sharp claws like a grizzily bear Oh please don't eat me mister grizzily bear I won't taste good mister grizzily bear I'm gonna run and hide from the grizzily bear You can't catch me mister grizzily bear. Hildebrand added the verse about "please don't eat me" after I overheard an American father at the Melbourne zoo doing "lion" for his little boy. The rest is how he's sung it for over 50 years. Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Grizzly Bear Song From: GUEST Date: 13 Dec 07 - 12:21 PM The correct spelling is Grizzly. The song goes way back in the oral tradition. When it is sung, a third syllable is added making it grizzily. My guess is that grizzily was a colloquial mispronunciation. You could sing it grizzly, but grizzily scans better and makes it sound more historically correct (of more folk-like). Roger in Baltimore |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Grizzly Bear Song From: Joybell Date: 13 Dec 07 - 02:57 PM Yes ddpro, When I used this song recently for a children's play I noted on the song sheets that the pronunciation was "griz-zely". I spelled it "grizzily" all through the song for the sake of easy learning. It's always sung this way but the problem occurs when the words are written down. I'm using the song Amos quotes in my next production. It's pronounced "griz-zely" there too. Actually I prefer not to write songs down for people to learn. It's much easier to memorize them from a CD then you don't have this problem. Cheers, Joy |
