When I lived in Oxford in the early 80's there was a young man called Lance who wrote some terrific songs. He very kindly gave me the words to one called Miss McIntyre which went

Miss McIntyre it's a lonely life for you
but I can see that you don't really care
no one can tell what you're going through
and maybe you are just a unaware

I also recall the chorus to one that I would love to learn, this went

Fair blows the wind to Australia
farewell the land and the life I used to know
sent down by the law to a far pacific shore
sailing on a fair wind to Australia

I know there were some runctions about at the time which do not need to be discussed here (so please keep those to yourselves) but does anyone know where Lance is or have the words to "Fair blows the wind"

Cheers

Raggy

Hi Raggytash.

I lived in Oxford from '81-'83, but can't recall Lance. Do you know which clubs he went to? I'm still in touch with a friend from those days who still lives in Oxford and has an encyclopaedic memory. I'm not sure she still has anything to do with the clubs now, but she went in those days to East Oxford Folk Club (which I helped to run), Ducklington and another club along Cowley road which I think may have been called the Red,White and Blue.

Actually, while I've been writing this a memory of a lad who would have been about 18-22 with long hair. Nice smile and very unassuming. Does that sound right?

Lance would have been about that age at the time, recently spoke to Shep who still lives in Oxford who told me that Lance had moved on to patures new. He was a regular at the Half Moon amongst other places at the time
