Subject: Save Brampton Live Festival From: Ian Date: 30 Nov 07 - 08:10 AM Can I request your support for this petition? HELP SAVE BRAMPTON LIVE!!! As supporters of Carlisle Folk & Blues Club (the previous organisers of which set up Brampton Live) and live music we are writing to you to see if you can add your voice to the already growing number of people signing the petition and urging Carlisle Council to reconsider it's plans to cut funding for Brampton Live. The future of Brampton Live Music Festival held in Brampton, Cumbria UK every July, is under threat from funding cuts being considered by Carlisle City Council. The promoters of the festival have published more information on the Brampton Live Website at www.bramptonlive.net We would urge everyone who supports Brampton Live, and indeed anyone who supports Live Music, (check out the fantastic artists that have appeared in the past to see what a great festival this is) so please visit the site and sign the online petition:- "Save Brampton Live Festival" which can be found at http://www.PetitionOnline.com/Brampton/ From the website you can also download a letter in Word format addressed to the Leader of Carlisle City Council opposing the cuts, sign it and add any comments you wish, and then send it to Carlisle City Council. It is a matter of some urgency as the council meet very soon to decide on what cutbacks have to be made. Thanks for your support Gill, Myrna and Chris pp Carlisle Folk & Blues Club http://www.petitiononline.com/petition.html |

Subject: RE: Save Brampton Live Festival From: GUEST,Festylover Date: 01 Dec 07 - 07:56 AM While I hate to see any festival cease to exist, I have to ask myself why exactly Brampton has come to rely so heavily on funding from Carlisle City Council in the first place? I am aware that other large, successful Cumbrian Music Festivals such as Solfest, Maryport Blues Festival, Kendal Calling, Dent Folk Festival and the Co ckermouth Rock Fetival get little or no funding from their local authority and still continue to exist. This clearly proves that festivals do not actually need local authority funding to remain solvent or successful. If these festivals can organise themselves so that they can exist without putting all their financial eggs in one basket in the relatively short time they have been running, then one has to ask why Brampton Live has still not managed this in the 12 years it has been in existance? While I would like to see Brampton Live survive, I really do not think that the City Council can be blamed if it ceases to exist - I think that the responsibility firmly lies with the organisers who have miss-managed funds and created an event which is not sustainable. Why should CCC keep supporting such an organisational shambles when they could be backing other, new events which may only need a couple of years financial support before becoming sustainable themselves? Ultimately, this would lead to more and better variety of music events in Cumbria which would be better for all of us. I hate to sound harsh, but if the current organisation have not been able to make Brampton sustainable in 12 years, I really think that it is unfair that they should be blaming CCC for withdrawing funding. It seems to me that they are simply trying to draw attention away from their own failings by blaming the City Council and if instead of moaning and drawing up petitions, they sat down and looked at their books then there is absolutely no reason why we shouldn't all be enjoying Brampton Live next summer without any need at all for Carlisle City Council funding. Oh, and incidentally, I have absolutely no connection with Carlisle City Council. These are just my observations as an interested observer. |
