Subject: Traditional Players Wanted for Folk Rock Project
From: Spleen Cringe
Date: 25 Nov 07 - 04:15 AM

Are you a traditional musician interested in doing something a little different?

We are looking for a melodeon or concertina player and a fiddler to join us for a one-off recording project. We would also be keen to hear from players of English border and Northumbrian pipes. We're hoping to hear from people who are versatile and adventurous players with experience of working with other people and of recording – so please, no beginners or bedroom heroes!

The project is based in Manchester, so ideally we are either looking for people based in or around the north west of England – or who don't mind travelling at relatively short notice.

The project will consist of traditional English (and a few Scottish) songs and ballads. When we call it folk rock, we mean that in the sense that you could call Will Oldham country and western or Sigur Ros classic rock … or Alasdair Robert folk rock! In other words, we're looking to create contemporary settings of the highest quality without any use of hoary old rock clichés. Some great musicians from the Manchester alternative/new folk scene will be on hand to bring in the 'rock' half of the equation to the table and we aim to work with a selection of guest vocalists.

If this is starting to sound like a poor man's version of The Imagined Village, don't worry. It's not.

If you want to find out more (or have a friend you think may be interested…) please send us a PM or email woodbineandivy 'at' yahoo.com (substitute @ for 'at')

Thanks for reading this!

I'm a box player, originally from Manchester, now living in Scotland. My cd collection has Fairport next to The Fall (best band ever, fuck categories). I'm interested

You could try Richard (box Player) and Helena (Pipes and fiddle)
of many groups including Crucible, Heckety, Jabadaw and Glory Strokes, do a search under any of the above and you will find one or more of them.
Brian would also be a great choice. All great musicians and good friends to us over in Canada.

I am looking for folk rock musicans to play with dow here in Kent. I anyone is too far from Manchester but closer to East Kent perhaps they might get in touch. Play, have some fun, inspire each other while learning new tunes and songs and the craft of performing!

Good luck with your project, I hope it goes really well,

Phil
