Can anybody please point me in the direction of a song about the World War 1 incident when German and English trooops came out of the trenches for a game of football at Christmas.

I heard someone sing about it a couple of years ago and would like to have a bash, so could do with words and music if anybody has them.

Thanks very much for that Mick. I have a vague recollection that the song I heard had a couple of lines from 'Silent Night' in it, although that may have been added by the singer.

I sometimes sing John McCuthcheon song, without the intro and plenary, and end it with Silent Night.

Christmas 1914 - besides Mike Harding, there is a song of this title by Mickey MacConnell.

Christmas In The Trenches - in addition to John McCutcheon, has been recorded by John Kelly (Kith & Kin Winter Measures), John McDermott (Rememberance), and Trilogy (Two Thousand Years of Christmas).

The event has also been addressed in two other songs to my knowledge, Belleau Wood - Garth Brooks, and It Could Happen Again - Collin Raye.

The reason I said to check the threads linked from the DT songs is that some of the others are in the threads (some of them several times over). From memory both Cormac McCutcheon's and Garth Brooks' songs are in the threads.

Burnley Clarion Community Choir very much enjoyed their weekend with Janet Russell at the Raise Your Banners festival in Bradford.

Because Sunday was Armistice Day, we included Peace on Earth in our set. It's Jim Boyes' song about the Christmas truce which featured in the Peace Concert titled Christmas Truce/Kerstbestand first performed in IEper cathedral in 1998.

"No Eastern Kings came bearing gifts to celebrate a birth
But in the midst of conflict there was Peace on Earth"

The full lyrics are on the Coope Boyes and Simpson website, the song is on the CD NMCD14.
