Subject: Nov. Shanty Session (NH) From: curmudgeon Date: 12 Nov 07 - 08:52 AM This Saturday, 17 November, is the date for the monthly shanty/forebitter session at the Press Room in Portsmouth NH. This promises to be a very special session as we will be joined by Micca Patterson, renowned raconteur, singer and song composer, now gaining notoriety as the creaor of "The Shantyman Who's Never Gone to Sea." Session starts at 3:30; hope to see lots of you there - Tom |

Subject: RE: Nov. Shanty Session (NH) From: PeadarOfPortsmouth Date: 12 Nov 07 - 03:37 PM I'm there for sure. I may even get my dad to attend (it was his foul influence that got me started with folk music) ... he and an old buddy of his keep threatening to show up to sing Eddystone Light. Can't wait to hear Micca again. Had lots of fun at Friday's session and I'm looking forward to hearing a few more of his songs. Nice bloke, too. Of course, I may have to postpone my debut of Mary Ellen Carter out of respect for Shantyman Who's Never... ;-) Peter |

Subject: RE: Nov. Shanty Session (NH) From: TRUBRIT Date: 12 Nov 07 - 08:41 PM Oops - correction - can't be there........showing houses all day and holding my daughter's 26th birthday party that night (how could that have slipped my mind?) -- so Jacquie - sadly this Evil Maine Sister (I suppose that is what one is if one is a member of the Evil Maine Sisterhood) can't make it. Hope you all have a wondrous time. |

Subject: RE: Nov. Shanty Session (NH) From: Charley Noble Date: 13 Nov 07 - 04:34 AM I believe we'll have to give this one a pass given that we haven't a clue where we are with regard to time. We're somewhat unstuck, at least a day ahead of the rest of the world in New Hampshire but also hung over which may mitigate in the opposite direction. There's a Southern Cross up there somewhere but we can't find it. Cheerily, Charley Noble, at large in Sydney |

Subject: RE: Nov. Shanty Session (NH) From: Charley Noble Date: 13 Nov 07 - 06:29 PM Linn- Do give Al and Barbara our best, and tell them it's a sunny day in Sydney and we're finally getting around to doing our laundry. The sea music session aboard the James Craig is shaping up nicely. I understand that Barry and Neil will be appearing in December down at South Street Sea Port. Maybe we should reserve a bus! Cheerily, Charley Noble, at large in Glebe |

Subject: RE: Nov. Shanty Session (NH) From: SINSULL Date: 18 Nov 07 - 07:36 AM Good session and lots of "new" songs. Mark just gets better and better. Micca was present with an assortment of parodies in hand. "Oh Not The Fields Of Athenry" was a winner. Some slightly insane woman was running around with a cell phone and sending the music over the air to a 101 year old woman from Ireland. We nearly had a Mollymauk stand-off. "Alabama" brought another slightly odd woman to the table. She was from Alabama and was pleased we did her ship well. I offered to sing "Marching Through Georgia" but Linn hit me. I remember "Sara's Boat", "Rolling Home" with free toast, "Sally Free and Easy", "Three Score and Ten", "Grey Funnel Line", "The Keel Man", Jer'is new song (does it have a name?),and lots more. A good evening but you were missed, Peter and Joann. |

Subject: RE: Nov. Shanty Session (NH) From: Charley Noble Date: 19 Nov 07 - 05:58 PM We're always pleased to hear there were survivors. We're back from our adventures in Australia. Evidently global warming hasn't mellowed the Maine climate this year. Did Al and Barbara actually make an appearance? We're certainly sorry to have missed Micca. Cheerily, Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: Nov. Shanty Session (NH) From: Jeri Date: 19 Nov 07 - 06:31 PM I thought I replied last night, but ... well, I didn't. The Mollymauk thing was funny. I wrote my version of the tale in the Versions of songs, and etiquette thread. Albatrosses at 10 paces... I'm calling the new song 'Bright Water'. Al and Barbara were there, and did some lovely songs. They've got a knack for finding great songs and then singing them so everyone else falls in love with them. |

Subject: RE: Nov. Shanty Session (NH) From: PeadarOfPortsmouth Date: 20 Nov 07 - 10:22 AM Welcome back, Charlie. Glad you enjoyed the trip and I'm hopeful you'll bring some photos to the Dec. session. Really enjoyed the Nov. session. Al and Barbara did great stuff and Micca was a hoot. Alexander from the Glouchester contingent also did some wonderful songs...think I may finally go to their session tonight as a result (depends on how much snow we get, since that just started). Cheers, Peter |

Subject: RE: Nov. Shanty Session (NH) From: Barry Finn Date: 20 Nov 07 - 10:27 AM Then I'll see you in Gloucester Peter. Thanks all for the updates, almost like being there, NOT! Next month Barry |

Subject: RE: Nov. Shanty Session (NH) From: SINSULL Date: 27 Nov 07 - 08:28 PM About half way through the evening a very young dark haired girl came up to me to say "Hi". I knew I had met her before but was not able to place her. DOH!!!! I just realized that it was the waitress from the Acorn. Did anyone else have a chance to welcome her? Mary |
|
Subject: RE: Nov. Shanty Session (NH) From: Jeri Date: 27 Nov 07 - 08:39 PM I waved at her and might have said, 'Hi'. She didn't stick around that long, but then, I don't know exactly when she arrived. Wanna go back to Acorns though! |
