I can't remember, but I will find out. Definitely north of England. Chester? At the time( late 60s?), I used to think that it was such a clever song.

I'm in Chester but have no clue as to who it might've been?

The song was written, prob early 60s, by a local (Wirral) singer. He was doing a lot of folk club bookings in the area at that time and writing a lot of songs in similar vein. I remember him saying that he wrote that one after hearing someone describe themselves in just those terms.

I also recall that it had one verse about a woman who'd been public school educated, was used to the sight of her confreres in the showers and places, and thought that only LSOUM gals looked like that with no clothes on. Then, for reasons which I've forgotten, she found herself naked amongst a group of working class women who were also naked. She was puzzled as to how they managed to look like like her LSOUM mates, because 'they weren't lower side of upper middle class'.

What else can you with the English class sytem except ridicule it?

Unfortunately, I'm damned if I can remember the guy's name. If it comes back I shall post.

The name Pete Young has just floated back to me. I can't be absolutely certain that was the guy but it's the best I can do.
