Subject: RE: Beverley, Sunday sessions notice board From: oombanjo Date: 23 Oct 07 - 11:46 AM Due to the lack of turn out over the last 5weeks, with the exception of Rogers bash 2 weeks ago and the double booking of the room at Hodgsons last week, that ended up a non starter. Will all interested parties in the Sunday sessions meet together this coming Sunday in the Sun Kick of as normal with a break at about 1800hrs to discuss the future status of the sessions. THE CHRISTMAS GET TOGETHER THIS YEAR WILL BE AT THE SUN ON SUNDAY THE 16Tth OF DECEMBER. . Cheers Oombanjo |

Subject: RE: Beverley, Sunday sessions notice board From: The DeanMeister Date: 25 Oct 07 - 05:43 AM I know I don't attend these sessions any more, John, so my opinion doesn't really count. However, I think the abundance of music sessions was always going to water down the situation. What is it now, 3, 4 times a week counting Tiger, Syntan, Sun, Monks Hodgsons etc? Even once a week is too much. We could always count on a full house coming from far and wide when it was just once a month. Regards to all, Pete. |

Subject: RE: Beverley, Sunday sessions notice board From: Carol Date: 25 Oct 07 - 01:51 PM I do a 70+ mile trip every time that I come to a session in Beverley - yes, I would love to live there but as I can't I much prefer coming to a mixed session where I know that I will 'get a chance to sing and hear other singers' on a Sunday afternoon, when even in the deepest winter I'm travelling there during daylight hours |

Subject: RE: Beverley, Sunday sessions notice board From: Graham and Jo Date: 26 Oct 07 - 02:11 PM Friday session tonight. We can hardly ever make it to sessions on other days these days because of pressure of work and the allotment. We hope all the sessions keep going though always looking forward to when the pressure is off a bit and we can get there again. |

Subject: RE: Beverley, Sunday sessions notice board From: Les from Hull Date: 26 Oct 07 - 04:45 PM Maggie and I won't be able to be there on Sunday. I'm sure that I can appreciate the problem of too many sessions, as we have a new weekly session in Hull that we want to support as well. We usually get up to Beverley about twice a month these days. I suppose the difficulty will be if the two Sundays with sessions are the two Sundays we can't get there. Bt I'm sure that people will make more effort if there's only two Sunday sessions a month. I think it's worth bearing in mind that festivals and other commitments affect people more in the Summer months. Anyway, we'll be happy to go along with the majority. Les |

Subject: RE: Beverley, Sunday sessions notice board From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 27 Oct 07 - 04:51 AM In the interest of getting some discussion going before Sunday - mainly for those who can't be there: I would suggest two sessions a month and a break in July and August to allow for festivals etc. Rog |

Subject: RE: Beverley, Sunday sessions notice board From: oombanjo Date: 27 Oct 07 - 05:22 AM Thats what the One has Pmd "twice/ month" Tiger and The Sun,they have made no mention of a break, but the break but it's a good idea as we are all away at some time over those months. |
|
Subject: RE: Beverley, Sunday sessions notice board From: Carol Date: 27 Oct 07 - 06:02 AM I'd go with the One, if you stop during July and August it makes it harder to remember to start up again! Anyhow see you Sunday. |

Subject: RE: Beverley, Sunday sessions notice board From: Linda Kelly Date: 27 Oct 07 - 10:06 AM My memory is rather dodgy but didnt it start out once a month at Nellies? |
|
Subject: RE: Beverley, Sunday sessions notice board From: The DeanMeister Date: 31 Oct 07 - 05:42 AM Nowt wrong with your memory, Linda. To my mind it made most sense, and with a bit of cajoling and ringing around we always had a pub FULL of singers and musicians, and a top afternoon was had by all. Chorus songs had a proper chorus complete with 4 part harmony. The only complaints I ever had were that people had to wait too long to hear the sound of their own voice when it was busy. I think that's why the different sessions were started up. The whole thing started a steady decline after that. We originally started the monthly session to recreate that fantastic atmosphere that used to prevail in Nellies when the Folk Festival was on, and, for five years, it worked. I'm still very proud of that. I'm not quite sure what the aim of six sessions a week is. The only additional ones that had any purpose were the Woolpack (now Tiger) on a Wednesday, which was solely for the tune-meisters, fair enough, and Roger's every other Tuesday at Sun which was for people to learn to play tunes together (a noble cause). |

Subject: RE: Beverley, Sunday sessions notice board From: ossonflags Date: 31 Oct 07 - 09:20 AM It was amazing that we all got on so well together with that eclectic mix but we did and it was lovely, proud to have been part of those early days. I believe it was an afternoon session with a start and end time that was adhered to - well most of the time. You are dead right Peter the atmosphere was fantastic and even the locals looked forward to us been there................and the beer was cheap!! |

Subject: RE: Beverley, Sunday sessions notice board From: The DeanMeister Date: 31 Oct 07 - 09:41 AM It was 2pm till 7pm by the way, Mick. By then we'd had too much to drink and left the stragglers to it! By, we had some rare afternoons. Remember the guy with the deafening highland pipes...??! They could hear him in Driffield. Little Annie was sat in the corner with her eyes shut and her fingers in her ears :o) Bloody wet myself! |

Subject: RE: Beverley, Sunday sessions notice board From: Graham and Jo Date: 02 Nov 07 - 09:25 AM We remember going to Kieth's session in the Sun. Not the same thing as as the big Nellys session but it was on every week and closer to where we live. Where there are a few people with tunes and/or some songs it is possible to have a jolly session. The tunes workshop on Tuesdays is still going, in the pool room of Monks walk at the moment. Ideal for beginners and musicians who want to try playing a different instrument. Non Sunday Beverley stuff: If anyone is interested Stevie is one of those playing in the Memorial Hall Beverley tonight. He's also on in the New Clarence in Hull on Saturday at about 8.30pm. We will be in the Tiger tonight as usual (mostly tunes) |
