Subject: BS: An Invitation To Everyone On Mudcat From: Rapparee Date: 22 Sep 07 - 04:02 PM On October 13, 2007, the Marshall Public Library invites each and every Mudcatter to a party to celebrate the Centennial of the Old Library (the part to the far right in the picture). The party will be from (about) 10 a.m. to (about) 4 p.m. and will include a cowboy shoot-out, Mountain Men and Mountain Women demonstrating various skills, LOTS of music, dancers from the Shoshone-Bannock tribes and Greek Orthodox Church as well as square dancers, a trolley from the Library to Farmaers' Market, a "street train" from the Library to the UP Depot (which will be open!) and the Railroad Historical Society/model railroad museum, food vendors, and a lot of stuff to numerous to mention. But since the Library will actually only 99 years, 362 days old on October 13, you are ALSO invited to ANOTHER, more sedate, affair on October 16! This will include speechifying and a birthday cake. Y'all come, 'cause this is gonna be fun. |

Subject: RE: BS: An Invitation To Everyone On Mudcat From: Deckman Date: 22 Sep 07 - 05:27 PM You've already told me that the menu that night at the Pocatello City Jail will be olde MRI's. That's O.K. with me, but I want to know WHICH MRI's. I mean, after all, if I'm going to Pocatello, Idaho. for a "bust out",I need to plan my menu! Bob(deckman)Nelson |

Subject: RE: BS: An Invitation To Everyone On Mudcat From: Rapparee Date: 22 Sep 07 - 05:52 PM They're all Chicken a la King, Bob. I think it was King George III. But boy, did he save the taxpayers money! As for beer -- there's PVB, and you can get (draft or in bottles) Moose Drool, Bitch Creek, Fat Tire, Cutthroat, Polygamy Porter, Provo Girl, Dead Man's ale, several varieties of IP, Guinness, Moosehead, Labatt's, Molson, Weidermann's, Sam Adams, Heineken's, and lots of others. You can, if you REALLY must, also get Bud, Coors, etc. There's a new tapas and wine bar, an Indian restaurant for those who can't be seperated from their vidaloo, several Mexican places, and such-like eateries. Unfortunately, the laundromat/pub closed. |

Subject: RE: BS: An Invitation To Everyone On Mudcat From: Alba Date: 22 Sep 07 - 10:20 PM Thank you so much for the invitation Rapaire. Sadly I do not think I can walk the 2,431 miles that lie between The Marshall Public Library and my Home as I have not made the obvious prep required when one undertakes such a roadtrip. I will be delighted to cook and eat some Idaho Spuds for my supper on October the 13th and be with you in Spirit however...*grin* Thank you again for thinking of me/us. Jude |

Subject: RE: BS: An Invitation To Everyone On Mudcat From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 22 Sep 07 - 11:35 PM Here's an idea! Since nobody wants to drive to Pocatello, take Pocatello to everybody! Make "The Centennial of the Old Library" a road show! Heck, Pocatello's not that big. Just pack the whole town up and take 'em to Seattle. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: An Invitation To Everyone On Mudcat From: Amos Date: 23 Sep 07 - 01:01 AM Where would Seattle put Pocatello if it came? Distributed guest-rooms in the oversized luxury homes of software tycoons? A |
|
Subject: RE: BS: An Invitation To Everyone On Mudcat From: JohnInKansas Date: 23 Sep 07 - 04:14 AM Seattle would probably welcome a few Pocatellocators if they'd displace some of the Californicators, but that's even further from us. Cheyenne would be about a midpoint from Wichita, but I think there's even less there in the way of accommodations than in Pocatello. (I'm not sure Cheyenne even has Budweiser.) I'm quite sure that Lin will read a book to commemorate the event. I'll have to do some thinking about an appropriate virtual activity. John |

|
Subject: RE: BS: An Invitation To Everyone On Mudcat From: frogprince Date: 24 Sep 07 - 02:58 PM Does the song "I've Been Everywhere" include Pocatello? Our local library was cut to the bone for some months, possibly because a continuation of millage on the ballot was worded like an additional new millage. Fortunately, when the local press laid out the fact that it would be closed down if the next millage vote failed, the electorate came through by a substantial majority. |

Subject: RE: BS: An Invitation To Everyone On Mudcat From: MMario Date: 24 Sep 07 - 03:00 PM We should open the MudCat Tavern up for this event and invite the Marshall Public Library to stop by for some music and chat! |

Subject: RE: BS: An Invitation To Everyone On Mudcat From: Celtaddict Date: 24 Sep 07 - 03:18 PM I love checking out, and using, local libraries when I travel. In fact I joined the 'Cat from the one in Falmouth, MA, on Cape Cod, when I requested a song about which I knew only writer and some lines in the middle, and Spartacus had the title, whole song, and identification of album to me in exactly six minutes. I was hooked. This should definitely be a virtual party! |

Subject: RE: BS: An Invitation To Everyone On Mudcat From: Stilly River Sage Date: 24 Sep 07 - 05:12 PM Everyone can make it a Google Roadtrip and make detours or travel a convoluted route between your home and the library. I might visit a few national parks on my way. SRS |

Subject: RE: BS: An Invitation To Everyone On Mudcat From: Desert Dancer Date: 25 Sep 07 - 04:12 PM Stilly, if you go via Albuquerque, you save 57 miles and get to view the balloons with artbrooks, to say nothing of avoiding lots of freeway (yes, Amos, that feature is cool, isn't it!). ~ Becky in Tucson |
|
Subject: RE: BS: An Invitation To Everyone On Mudcat From: Desert Dancer Date: 25 Sep 07 - 04:15 PM Google claims it's only 14 3/4 hours from Tucson, tho that's pretty optimistic, if you ask me, given that it takes 11 hours for us to get from here to Moab, UT. That must be the time in a "self-contained" vehicle with extra gas tanks... Astro and I enjoyed dancers at the Greek Orthodox Church's festival here the other night -- don't know if we need to drive that far to see them again, though. ~ Becky in Tucson |

Subject: RE: BS: An Invitation To Everyone On Mudcat From: Rapparee Date: 25 Sep 07 - 04:19 PM Bet you didn't see the Shoshone-Bannock dancers there. Not many Sho-Bans are Greek Orthodox (although there is a Greek Orthodox church here -- it's even on the National Register of Historic Places). |
|
Subject: RE: BS: An Invitation To Everyone On Mudcat From: astro Date: 27 Sep 07 - 05:37 PM As a old Pocatello resident, I didn't see them there at all during my stay. Subject: RE: BS: An Invitation To Everyone On Mudcat From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 28 Sep 07 - 10:19 AM I was in Pocatello a long time ago, and ate in a Mexican restaurant where they put the guacamole in a glass ice-cream sundae dish - a big dish! They put a cherry tomato on the top to make it look even more like an ice cream sundae. If that restaurant is still there, I will make the trek. |
