Subject: RE: Melodeon Tuition Book / DVD needed From: treewind Date: 24 Jul 07 - 03:55 AM John Kirkpatrick made a set of videos that must be the definitive work on the subject, but I don't know if it's been converted to DVD. I think it was a set of three, from beginner to advanced. [fx: rummage...] Yes, see Mrs Casey. For Irish "button accordion" style, try Mally Anahata |

Subject: RE: Melodeon Tuition Book / DVD needed From: GUEST,pavane Date: 24 Jul 07 - 05:13 AM Just in case you find it useful: My software HARMONY does melodeon (and concertina) tablature, and has an option to let you explore playing across the rows. (The choice of next button for a note can be related to the current bellows direction) It comes with instrument definitions for a couple of standard D/G layouts (With and without accidentals at the bottom ends of the rows) but I can provide one for any instrument if given the keyboard layout. Subject: RE: Melodeon Tuition Book / DVD needed From: Dazbo Date: 24 Jul 07 - 05:22 AM The John Kirkpatrick videos are on one DVD. I(and many others) found Mally's basic books very useful. I've not heard to many good things about books for playing BC (Irish style) boxes. If you haven't found it already can I point you to Melodeon.Net which, although the front page hasn't been updated for about 3 years :-(, has a good forum for melodeon players - mainly DG but all are welcome. |

Subject: RE: Melodeon Tuition Book / DVD needed From: GUEST,Alison Scott Date: 24 Jul 07 - 10:38 AM If you're just beginning then you might find the JK DVD 'rather hard' -- he doesn't take any prisoners and it's easy to get lost. The flip side of that is that there's loads of information in it and everyone can learn things from it. There aren't any other D/G DVDs as far as I know, but as well as Mally's book, mentioned above, there is a new tutor by George Garside (search for melodeon on eBay, he generally has one for sale there) which doesn't require any knowledge of the dots at all, and a fairly new tutor by Maggie Moore, Maggie's Melodeon. All of these are suitable for absolute beginners. And yes, I too would recommend the melodeon.net forums at melodeon.aimoo.com |
