Subject: BS: Richard Sharpe's wives/girlfriends From: Kampervan Date: 06 Jul 07 - 02:21 AM So having recently watched most of the 'Sharpe' series dramatised from the books of Bernard Cornwell I was left a little confused as to the order and origin of his wives. Apart from Lady Jane, who does run through about 4 episodes, the others seem to just arrive out of nowhere - The Spanish lady for instance - where did she come from? Has anyone ever worked out the chronological order of his wives and girlfriends? Love ot hear from you if you have. K/van |

I may have to read the Starbuck chronciles now... didn't realise they were linked. There went my weekend! LTS |

Subject: RE: BS: Richard Sharpe's wives/girlfriends From: The Walrus Date: 06 Jul 07 - 06:21 AM It always struck me that Bernard Cornwell should have extended the Sharpe Series, perhaps Richard Sharpe joins Simon Bolivar's "Army of Liberation of the Andes" ('Sharpe's Llama'?) or perhaps helps Byron and Co. in the Greek War of Independence (Sharpe's Kebab?). Subject: RE: BS: Richard Sharpe's wives/girlfriends From: Cats at Work Date: 06 Jul 07 - 06:28 AM The confusion comes from the fact that they are not showing the series in the same order as the books. Last week he was separated from Jane and the following day meeting her for the first time! |

Subject: RE: BS: Richard Sharpe's wives/girlfriends From: Grab Date: 06 Jul 07 - 09:33 AM I think wives/girlfriends in the series are significantly simplified over the books. Watch them in order and I think it makes sense. Graham. |

Subject: RE: BS: Richard Sharpe's wives/girlfriends From: Noreen Date: 06 Jul 07 - 10:11 AM I wonder whether the programmers didn't realise that there was a sequence to the episodes? Or have they done this for fun? It is a little odd when charcters (not just wives/girfriends) who have been killed off are newly introduced in the next episode. Waterloo was last week- and here we are still building up to it this week... Worth watching just for the two lead male characters *sigh* and of course John Tams's singing. |

Subject: RE: BS: Richard Sharpe's wives/girlfriends From: Kampervan Date: 06 Jul 07 - 03:07 PM Yeah, I've got to admit the scheduling did make it all a bit confusing. But thanks to 'Guest' for the Wiki reference. Complicated isn't it? Got to agree with Noreen though, John Tams singing was superb, (and he still does a mean live performance). |
