I don't know how to make midi files. Perhaps someone who does will. Sorry I can't be of more help. Best to you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycV_XGwegoY |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: I'll meet you in the morning (Brumley) From: Joe Offer Date: 02 Jul 07 - 02:19 AM Hi, Fiddler- It's not an easy song to transcribe, but I can get one done Tuesday. It's sleepytime in California now, and I'm gone all Monday. If I don't get one posted by the end of the day Tuesday, send me a reminder by e-mail. -Joe Offer- joe@mudcat.org |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: I'll meet you in the morning (Brumle From: Joe Offer Date: 02 Jul 07 - 02:33 AM I'll Meet You in the Morning (Albert E. Brumley, 1936) I will meet you in the morning, by the bright riverside, When all sorrow has drifted away; I'll be standing at the portals, when the gates open wide, At the close of life's long, dreary day. CHORUS: I'll meet you in the morning With a "How do you do" And we'll sit down by the river And with rapture "auld" acquaintance renew; You'll know me in the morning, By the smiles that I wear, When I meet you in the morning In the city that is built foursquare. I will meet you in the morning, in the sweet by and by, And exchange the old cross for a crown; There will be no disappointments and nobody shall die, In that land, when life's sun goeth down. CHORUS I will meet you in the morning, at the end of the way, On the streets of that city of gold; Where all can be together and be happy for aye, While the years and the ages shall roll. CHORUS *date of publication is partly illegible - it's 1935 or 1936, I think (changed to 1936 per message below from cetmst). from The Best of Albert E. Brumley songbook Click to play |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: I'll meet you in the morning (Brumley) From: cetmst Date: 02 Jul 07 - 07:29 AM It is printed in "America's Memory Valley" by Albert E. Brumley and Sons, Inc., Powell MO, original copyright Albert E. Brumley/Hartford Music Company "Lights of Life", Hartford AK 1936. I have a page copied from somewhere which also has guitar chords, copyright renewal Albert E. Brumley and Sons 1964. "America's Memory Valley" is copyright 1992. Joe Offer in a previous thread mentioned the use of some of Brumley's work in his Catholic Church service. Some of us in our Congregational Church here in New Hampshire have been pushing for inclusion of some of the older, folkier hymns in the service against the resistance of my wife as chair of the Music Committee and the pastor. The pastor has asked for a list of what people would like to sing but with no promise that he would use it. So far neighboring churches' use of "Life Is Like a Mountain Railway" and Bill Staines' "Place in the Choir" in memorial services have been the most we have heard. Am trying to have Jean Ritchie's "Now Is the Cool of the Day" used on Earth Day. |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: I'll meet you in the morning (Brumle From: Midchuck Date: 02 Jul 07 - 11:53 AM When the Charles River Valley Boys were playing at the old Club 47 in Cambridge, MA, and I was in law school listening to them when I should have been studying (if I'd studied harder, I might have gotten into a big New York law firm and had an office in the top of the World Trade Center..), in the mid-sixties, they did a great version of this. Joe Val sang lead with a tenor that could shatter glass. They didn't record it, and I thought that version was lost forever, until I got given a demo CD of live cuts from the Newport Festival from '67 (I think) that had them doing it. It's one of my treasures. Now that you reminded me, I gotta go home and rip that cut to the computer so it won't get lost if the CD does. Peter. |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: I'll meet you in the morning (Brumle From: Joe Offer Date: 04 Jul 07 - 02:34 AM OK, so I finished the MIDI, and it WAS a bear to transcribe. Here's how the repeat goes in the chorus (high part in parentheses): I'll meet you in the morning (Meet you in the morning, meet you in the morning) With a "How do you do" (How do you do, how do you do) And we'll sit down by the river (sit down by the river, sit down by the river) And with rapture "auld" acquaintance renew; (Rapture our "auld" acquaintance renew) You'll know me in the morning, (Know me in the morning, know me in the morning) By the smiles that I wear, (Smiles that I wear, smiles that I wear) When I meet you in the morning (Meet you in the morning, meet you in the morning) In the city that is built foursquare.
