We went to Albany yesterday for further work on the vocal chord and the surgeon, having done some research on the best way to extract and reuse fat cells, called in a plastic surgeon to show him how to do liposuction, as this was considered a better method of harvesting for reinsertion. Kendall now has bandage taped across his lower abdomen, makes him look a little like a sumo wrestler. The dressings come off tomorrow and we will see how much they took. (I'm dead jealous, by the way!) Seriously though, Kendall's surgeon packed the vocal chord with about 30% more fat than was required, to allow for reabsorption. Kendall's on voice rest for three days and then to use his voice sparingly and gently. We go back for post op in about a month but should not expect too much for about six weeks. We drove back home this morning, with a stop off at Cracker Barrel for Kendall to polish off bacon, eggs and pancakes with strawberries and cream - his appetite is still there! Now we just wait and see...... |

There's some marks but no real bruising although it's still sore. |

She gives him an outlet for a good cursing session (at which times she is known by her middle name, Lois) and also a good reason not to watch Court TV. Most fine Sunday mornings we have an early morning date with the lady and take her out to consort with others of her kind, usually ending up with a drive out, in convoy with up to ywenty others, to a have a coffee or breakfast. We've also taken part in a couple of local parades, which was fun. We found her stuck away in a garage for about twenty years and she needed a great deal of TLC to get her running and gussied up. She really is a work in progress and probably will continue to be so, but that is the fun of owning a car like this. The name, Genevieve, comes from the British film of the same name, about a vintage car in the London to Brighton rally. I'm looking for a copy of that on an American format as Kendall has never seen it! |

From: jacqui.c Date: 18 Jul 07 - 06:58 AM We saw the surgeon yesterday in Albany and, while part of the fat has been reabsorbed, the chord is thicker than pre-op. There is still a small gap right now but Kendall has been told to start back with speech therapy and see what results he gets. If necessary this procedure can be repeated to try and give a bit more substance or they can try using freeze dried cadaver skin cells, which may stay in place and allow his own cells to grow round it. Right now Kendall is up for any procedure that will give him a voice, so we will just have to wait and see what happens with the speech therapy. His therapist gets all fluttery when she sees him and is determined that he will get his voice back (we gave her a copy of Beginner's Luck so she knows what he lost) so he has a lot of good people on his side in this. Continuing good thoughts please - I'm sure that they help! |

I did not respond, but she turned beet red anyway. Well, I guess I did smile a little. What's happening here is the exercises that she gave me prove that my vocal cords are working, but they were out of service so long that the false cords took over, and now they won't give it up. I may have to see a specialist in Boston. |
