Hello my name is Tango, here I am with some of my friends

I'm about 15 inches tall, cuddly and comply with EEC safety regulations. Emma B found me sitting all alone on a shelf and brought me home with her but, with all her books n' stuff, she says she hasn't room for another primate in her life right now.

So I'm looking for another home and am prepared to travel anywhere(fare paid) for a small donation to Mudcat.

Money can't buy you love so this is not an auction: I'm just looking for a caring mud kitten or another lonely orang-outang (no chimps please!)

Did you misspell orangutan on purpose?

The word orangutan (also written orang-utan, orang utan and orangutang) is derived from the Malay and Indonesian words orang meaning "person" and hutan meaning "forest", thus "man of the forest". Orang Hutan is the common term in these two national languages, although local peoples may also refer to them by local languages. Maias and mawas are also used in Malay, but it is unclear if those words refer only to orangutans, or to all apes in general.

The word was first attested in English in 1691 in the form orang-outang, and variants with -ng instead of -n as in the Malay original are found in many languages. This spelling (and pronunciation) has remained in use in English up to the present, but has come to be regarded as incorrect by some. However, dictionaries such as the American Heritage Dictionary regard forms with -ng as acceptable variants

The language is always changing, thank heaven, I'm glad we don't go around talking like King James. The Brits are hard enough to understand now! LOL

So, why do so many people, especially narrators of nature films, pronounce Antarctica anartica? I love nature shows, but that always makes me cringe.

Why does someone always have to try to score gratuitous points? It was supposed to be fun. Oh well.

Gratuitous points can be quite fun. You can find out stuff you didn't know.
...................

I read the heading as orang outing, and had visions of some kind of ape version of the teddy bears' picnic.

Well my name is Tango - and I'm still looking for a home - is there no mudkitten out there that needs a cuddly companion?
Come on folks - just a small donation to mudcat and you could have your own grateful ape!

Oh, hell, $10. But Tango must also stay away from liquor, which has been known to lead orang-outangs down the primrose path to perdition.

So long as we keep him away from Chongo he'll probably be OK. He will be going to a good family who will make sure that he is raised in the right way - I think!

Obvioulsy I'm chipping in as well. Any other takers? C'mon, Mudcat Aunts and Uncles!

Ooook ooook, I'm soooo excited!

Em is busy packing for me and says I'm going for a long journey on a hairy plane (hope it's orangie like me)

She says if I'm a very good boy I might grow up to be a libraian like that nice Mr Rapaire but I don't touch any liguor 'cos Em keeps it all to herself!

Em says you all speak sorta funny over there - not like in Chester where she found me - and that you spell even worse!

Lots of love
Tango - a very happy orang-outang

From Chester to West Chester! How appropriate!

Tango - hopefully you will be able to train Kiran in the correct usage, spelling and pronounciation of the Queen's English as he grows.

Just send in a contribution and post that you did so that Tango's new family knows you helped.

Dear Mudcat Friends,

A couple of days ago I received a mysterious package in the mail. It wasn't the first mysterious package I've received, but it had certainly traveled the farthest - all the way from Cheshire, England! It said it came from Emma on the Mudcat, but that's all I knew. Well, actually, I knew a lot less than that, since I'm only seven weeks old - but my Dad and Mom knew that the beautiful soft toy inside was an orang-ou.. orangu... great ape. After much research, Dad found this thread.

Thank you, Emma, and Mmario, and Jaqcui.C and Rapaire and everyone else who helped send Tango to me!

Dad posted some pictures of me playing with Tango on his new website, but you can't get to them through the main page - so you can take this link to see them. (The Tango pictures are at the bottom.)

Love,
Kiran

I have only just found this thread. I have two of Tango's cousins amongst my collection of small furry apes. I also am an adoptive parent to Gordon at Monkey World, Dorset, England which is an ape rescue centre run by a wonderful American lady named Alison Cronin. Here is a clicky.
