Subject: BS: A-Rod's on the field distraction From: 3refs Date: 02 Jun 07 - 09:03 AM For those of you who are not aware of the situation. Alex Rodrigueze and the Yankees are playing the Toronto Blue Jays. A-Rod is on 2nd base when a routine pop fly is hit towards the Jay's 3rd baseman. As A-Rod is running past he yells "MINE" and Toronto's Howie Clark assumed that the "MINE" came from the short-stop and moved out from under the ball. Needless to say the ball hit the ground. Well, there seems to be a lot of controverse, with comments coming from all angles. I don't see verbally trying to get a player off his game, or screwing up a play as a problem. Provided the comments aren't racist or discriminatory in nature. I've yelled at the opposition, I've even whispered in their ear! |

Subject: RE: BS: A-Rod's on the field distraction From: GUEST,282RA Date: 02 Jun 07 - 02:34 PM He did nothing wrong. If it's not a violation of the rules of baseball then it must be permissible. You have to pay attention to what's going on. Anybody can yell anything and it's your job to know whose yelling what and why. The other fellow is mad because he got owned. A play can't physically interfere with a fielder in the act of making a play--that's in the rulebook but a player can yell whatever the hell he wants. If it screws up your game then I guess it's a good weapon. Of course A-Rod won't admit he yelled "mine" but not because he's afraid it's unsportsmanlike, which it isn't, but because the other team will do it back to him a thousand fold. |
