Subject: BS: whose world would you rather be in? From: GUEST,wordy Date: 06 Apr 07 - 05:20 PM just watched Fox news. Apparantly the British marines and sailors were cowards who surrendered when they should have allowed themselves to be killed pointlessly. The british warship should have blasted the iranians out of the water and precipitated a major international crisis. The Brits "confessed" (they didn't, they chose their words carefully) etc. the whole newscast was about british cowardice and American bravery. Now, the brits are safe at home. No one died. The international situation is not at boiling point. No retaliatory action was take in which civilians including children would have undoubtedly died. So which world would you rather be living in? The British one of quiet common sense and diplomacy, or the American one of gung ho? |

Subject: RE: BS: whose world would you rather be in? From: Jean(eanjay) Date: 06 Apr 07 - 05:25 PM It sounds as if the news report was a bit irresponsible. |

Subject: RE: BS: whose world would you rather be in? From: GUEST, Eb Date: 06 Apr 07 - 05:32 PM Fox News irresponsible? Horrors! |

Subject: RE: BS: whose world would you rather be in? From: Scoville Date: 06 Apr 07 - 05:35 PM Fox is irresponsible and sensationalist even by American standards. They're [in]famous for it. They're standard fare for stand-up comedians. |

Subject: RE: BS: whose world would you rather be in? From: Jean(eanjay) Date: 06 Apr 07 - 05:59 PM Thankfully I'm not familiar with Fox News if this is how they report. |

Subject: RE: BS: whose world would you rather be in? From: Peace Date: 06 Apr 07 - 06:03 PM Fox news. Why do you watch that? Bunch of numbnuts who are sitting at home pontificating about the actions of sailors and marines who were taken prisoner. What the f#ck do they know? |

Subject: RE: BS: whose world would you rather be in? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 06 Apr 07 - 06:04 PM Friendly bunch aren't they? "Special relationship" is the term, I understand... |

Subject: RE: BS: whose world would you rather be in? From: Little Hawk Date: 06 Apr 07 - 06:07 PM The infamous Toronto Sun newspaper uses much the same approach. If there isn't blood spilled at the end of the story they holler "Wimps!". They are Canada's worst and most generally despised newspaper, but very popular with nearly illiterate people, because they have lots of pictures of women in bikinis to look at. There's a new "Sunshine Girl" featured in every issue. |

Subject: RE: BS: whose world would you rather be in? From: dianavan Date: 06 Apr 07 - 06:17 PM If you have to put someone down in order to feel good about yourself, there is something very, very wrong. If using the Brits as a way of making America seem bold and strong is necessary, its time Americans take a look at themselves. I'll choose diplomacy over war every time. In fact, I have a much better impression of Britain but Blair is still kissing the Bush butt. You really do have to get rid of him. |

Subject: RE: BS: whose world would you rather be in? From: Jean(eanjay) Date: 06 Apr 07 - 06:19 PM You really do have to get rid of him. I couldn't agree more! |

Subject: RE: BS: whose world would you rather be in? From: artbrooks Date: 06 Apr 07 - 06:29 PM The American one of gung ho? No, that would be the FOX one of gung ho. Generally speaking, FOX makes Geo. W. look rational. BTW, did you know that the Chinese phrase generally mispronounced as "Gung Ho" means something like "working together harmoniously"? |

Subject: RE: BS: whose world would you rather be in? From: Mickey191 Date: 06 Apr 07 - 06:39 PM I'm thankful the boys & girl are home. The woman was kept separate & told the rest went home. She must have been really terrified at that thought. Does anyone think that bushbaby was disappointed that no blood was shed? I've become such a cynic--I do! |

Subject: RE: BS: whose world would you rather be in? From: GUEST,wordy Date: 06 Apr 07 - 07:09 PM I dip into Fox every day because I understand it represents (or sets the agenda for) a large percentage of American opinion of a Right wing flavour. Also it's owned by Murdoch who owns a great deal of british media and is hell bent on destroying the BBC. I would love to see the Beeb showing the whole Fox item on our national news, it might remove some of the scales from the eyes of our citizens and make them exert more pressure on our politicians to distance themselves from American policy and leadership. |

Subject: RE: BS: whose world would you rather be in? From: kendall Date: 06 Apr 07 - 07:32 PM My only problem with the outcome of the "incident" is that it might embolden others to start another incident over there. Does anyone know what the British boat carried for armament? The Lt. said they were outgunned, so he had no choice. |

Subject: RE: BS: whose world would you rather be in? From: frogprince Date: 06 Apr 07 - 07:40 PM "Fox News irresponsible" Where was that "department of redundancy department" thread again... The Fox news operation has all the class and integrity of a bunch of drug pushers hanging around school yards. |

Subject: RE: BS: whose world would you rather be in? From: Don Firth Date: 06 Apr 07 - 07:59 PM It's easy for people like Bill O'Reilly to sit there safely in the confines of a television studio and talk about who's brave and who's cowardly, but I'll bet that it that big-assed blowhard ever had to face anything more dangerous that an angry e-mail--say, finding himself staring down the barrel of a loaded gun in the hands of an angry Iranian--he'd lose control of all of his sphincters, collapse to the floor in a heap, and lay there whining for mercy. That is, if he didn't just faint dead away. Don Firth. |

Subject: RE: BS: whose world would you rather be in? From: jacqui.c Date: 07 Apr 07 - 09:29 AM It wasn't just Americans who were at boiling point. There was some arsehole, ex Britsh army, who was calling the captives cowards and whatever. I vote that all those who reckon it should have been handled differently be put in a boat and sailed just to the edge of Iranian waters. Then they can be left to do the 'brave' bit all on their own. I bet they'd change their tune fairly fast. |

Subject: RE: BS: whose world would you rather be in? From: GUEST,meself Date: 08 Apr 07 - 09:04 AM "Also it's owned by Murdoch who owns a great deal of british media" - Appalling how these folksingers change their politics when they become media barons! (A little in-joke there, folks ... ). |

Subject: RE: BS: whose world would you rather be in? From: GUEST,Ian cookieless Date: 09 Apr 07 - 09:31 AM I always find it amazing that Fox News - or anyone at all, news media or otherwise - can appoint themselves expert on a situation they know diddly squat about, were not in, were not there, cannot know what the full options were, what emotions were at play, what the orders were, etc., etc. I suspect there's a lot about this incident we'll never know. The woman involved is about to sell her story. I don't understand why the army or the government allow this. Well, I think I do: I am sure it will be an approved version of events. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: whose world would you rather be in? From: Jean(eanjay) Date: 09 Apr 07 - 09:40 AM I don't understand why this is being allowed either. Despite the promises to give some money to charity people will make a lot of money out of it. Also, some of the hostages were given a higher profile than others so they are likely to make more money than others. If I had lost a loved one in Iraq I would find it hard to stomach. I'm finding it quite hard as it is! |
|
Subject: RE: BS: whose world would you rather be in? From: Donuel Date: 09 Apr 07 - 09:43 AM Too bad Fox has no popular English food to transform , like freedom fries or freedom toast. Of course MSNBC has the same retired US generals spouting their contempt on this matter for their own brainwashed contemptable sake. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: whose world would you rather be in? From: Mrrzy Date: 09 Apr 07 - 09:35 PM I said this early on - I admire those individuals greatly for not turning it into a shootin' war. Fox. *sigh*. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: whose world would you rather be in? From: Peace Date: 09 Apr 07 - 10:16 PM I understand why family who have lost loved ones in Iraq would be upset over this decision. But truthfully, I see little difference between these paople telling their stories for X amount of dollars and someone like Lewinsky or Nixon telling theirs for millions. Or Schwarzkopf selling "It Doesn't Take a Hero" just after the Gulf War. |
