Subject: RE: SUN INN From: Les from Hull Date: 06 Apr 07 - 03:27 PM From the Enterprise Inn website 'The Sun Inn is located just off the town of Beverley, directly opposite the Minster. Beverley is an historical tourist town with year round tourist trade to the area. The pub is a traditional cask ale house with exposed beams, slate floor all decorated in a traditional cask ale house style. The trading area comprises an open plan area with a number of designated customer areas including a no-smoking area. Externally there is an enclosed patio area to the rear of the property and a fully equipped catering kitchen located just off the trading area. The well presented private accommodation comprises lounge, kitchen, 3 bedrooms and bathroom. Enterprise Inns are seeking an experienced cask ale operator to further develop the trade by the continuation of the development of cask ale and the introduction of a daytime and early evening food offer. The business has been well supported by folk music and other live entertainment which play an important role in the current offer, and the successful applicant should look to incorporate this within their plans for the business. Estimated Capital Requirement £14,500' |

Subject: RE: SUN INN, Beverley - For Sale, with folk music From: Sorcha Date: 06 Apr 07 - 10:10 PM I KNOW I just posted this.... Only $30,000 USD? Are the licenses included? Or, rather, what is NOT included in that price? |

Subject: RE: SUN INN, Beverley - For Sale, with folk music From: AWG Date: 06 Apr 07 - 10:15 PM Wow, you can't buy much for $30,000 USD these days, where is this place, Afghanastan ?? I KNOW you can't be talking about Beverly Hills, California... |

Subject: RE: SUN INN, Beverley - For Sale, with folk music From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 07 Apr 07 - 05:59 AM The pub is not for sale at that price. Enterprise Inns continue to own it - they are asking that money for the privelege of running it, paying around £800 a week rent and having to buy all drinks etc through them at at huge markup. When the new licensees find that they can't make any money with this deal and give up the pub, they will lose the £14,500 as many have done before them. This is how Enterprise Inns make their money, ruin a good pub and a lot of gullible peoples lives. R |

Subject: RE: SUN INN, Beverley - For Sale, with folk music From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 07 Apr 07 - 06:02 AM Oh, and it is also why we have moved all of our sessions out of there. So, they are now advertising it under a false premise - that there are folk sessions in the pub. R |

Subject: RE: SUN INN, Beverley - For Sale, with folk music From: GUEST,Carl - Nikki Date: 30 Apr 07 - 05:46 AM Hello people, I got the forum address off Mick ( Punch the Horse ). I just wanted to put across my views on the Sun, I know most of you because the time me and my wife spent doing some voluntary work with Dianne a previous "Manager" ( not landlady as I will explain later ). We now have the Duke Of York in Skirlaugh, a pub very similar to yourselves having had a high turnover of managers over the last 7-8 years. The problem you had is that an Holding company took over your pub. Holding companies have numerous pubs at low rent and basically just keep a pub open for the pub companies. A majority of holding companies are run by accountants as a second business as was the Sun Inn. Holding companies employ "managers" to run there pubs with no incentives for the managers to build trade. The difference between having a tenant rather than a manager is that they run the pub as a business. We have taken over the Duke Of York and the locals have come back and started to use the pub again many commenting that they have never seen the pub so busy in years, I put this down to ourselves really putting some time, effort and money in to build our business. Now the good news for the Sun Inn, Two sisters and there Husbands have invested in the Sun, they WILL make the sun work because it is in there interest to. You have for the 1st time in a long time had someone you can approach and who will really listen to what you want. I got to know them because they came into the Duke Of York doing there homework and all I can say is you are lucky they have chosen the Sun to invest in. Pop in and see them chat to them and you should see the difference. I hope they have made already. |

Subject: RE: SUN INN, Beverley - For Sale, with folk music From: Graham and Jo Date: 30 Apr 07 - 03:10 PM Sorry to sound like misery guts but it wasn't just holding companies. Many landlords have invested in the tennancy and all have lost their money. Good hard working landlords have been caught up with this pub owned by Enterprise inns and lost everything. |

Subject: RE: SUN INN, Beverley - For Sale, with folk music From: Pistachio Date: 30 Apr 07 - 03:11 PM Thanks for the explanation - it sounds hopeful....again. I know a few of the Mudcatters are away over the next few days/weeks/weeklends so your friends will have time to settle in. Best wishes to all concerned - I love The Sun Inn as a venue and have enjoyed many sessions within its unique walls. It has suffered for a long time with plumbing problems (!)and it would be nice to find those troubles have been properly sorted out! What will be welcomed is a good and plentiful supply of real ales (and soft drinks). With summer upon us and the Beverley Folk Festival from 15 - 17 June I wish the new managers well. Many people converge on the Sun Inn as it's on the route from the campsite to town. I'll go along for a look sometime soon. H. |

Subject: RE: SUN INN, Beverley - For Sale, with folk music From: MG John Date: 03 May 07 - 04:46 PM I dropped in early one evening for a pint of the black stuff, and was pleased to receive a warm welcome from one of the sisters. They have secured a lease for ten years, independant of a holding company, and the Inn is already looking promissing for the future. I am not going to say too much now, as I would prefer to encourage people to pop in themselves, have a drink, meet the new team and hopefully support them in the future. J. |
