Subject: wanted: a mandolin group near Leeds From: GUEST,bobcat Date: 13 Mar 07 - 06:37 PM I've just returned from a fantastic Mandolin weekend in Lanarkshire organised by the LGMA. Can't wait to return next year...meanwhile does anyone know of a group/ensemble I could join in or near to Leeds...suitable for a beginner/improver? Or is anyone interested in starting one? I find sessions too fast and advanced!!Perhaps there are others learning or who are tutors who could help me find/start such a group....could have tenor banjos and guitars in it as well... |

Subject: RE: wanted: a mandolin group near Leeds From: SconeFairy Date: 14 Mar 07 - 08:29 AM No idea mate, but you could try asking them in the music shop in Cleckheaton...they seem to be switched on and there was a pretty extensive list of sessions posted there last time I was in. I think it's called the Music Room. Jonathan www.sconefairies.co.uk |

Subject: RE: wanted: a mandolin group near Leeds From: GUEST,jeff Date: 14 Mar 07 - 11:19 PM try: http://www.mandolincafe.com into your search engine. There's a traditional site @ http://www.thesession.org. The tunes are in standard notation for whistle/fiddle...same as mandolin. Also, celticguitartalk.com and acousticguitarforum.com may have someone posting who's in your area and plays mando. |

Subject: RE: wanted: a mandolin group near Leeds From: GUEST,Tom Bliss Date: 16 Mar 07 - 07:16 AM Napper's on the road doing St Patrick's Month at the moment. I'll point this out to him on his return. There are various sessions where mandolins are welcomed round here. Try Filofolk Or you could got in touch with the BMG Federation and start your own orchestra - I'd come! Tom |

Subject: RE: wanted: a mandolin group near Leeds From: GUEST,bobcat Date: 16 Mar 07 - 12:11 PM Thanks for that..I'd happily start a group and find a tutor/leader if I can't find one to join. You are way out of my league..but then I envisage a mixed ability group with you able players sympathetically pulling along lesser mortals like me!! |

Subject: RE: wanted: a mandolin group near Leeds From: GUEST,Tom Bliss Date: 16 Mar 07 - 12:38 PM Come to The Chemic on Woodhouse St (Hyde Park) on a Wednesday. Largely Irish, very mixed ability - mainly fiddles but often a few mandos and others. Friendly crowd - I'm often there when not working. |
